(Warrensburg, Missouri) The Douglas Ray Brockert Memorial served as the season lid-lifter at Central Missouri Speedway on Saturday night. There were 77 race teams participating in POWRi-sanctioned action, which included 27 B-Mods, 21 Super Stocks, 9 Pure Stocks, 13 Midwest Mods and 6 guest class Lightning Sprints.

POWRi main event victories went to Jacob Ebert in B-Mods, Blaine Ewing in Super Stocks, Spencer Reiff in Pure Stocks, Dave Meyer in Midwest Mods, and Chasity Younger in POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints.

The night was halted when a serious crash during the Super Stock main event took place late in the race when Andy Zeller’s car left the speedway, resulting in a series of rollovers with the car coming to rest upside down. A life-flight emergency was called, and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. After outstanding work by emergency responders, Mr. Zeller was secured and was responding to emergency responders and officials prior to being airlifted for focused treatment. There were no further updates provided at press time.

The four weekly racing division drivers raced in honor of and were on the receiving end of extra payout money left by Douglas Ray Brockert, a long-time CMS race fan after his passing just after the conclusion of racing last season. Brockert developed a love for racing from watching his late brother, Mike, race at CMS. Douglas left a donation for the four weekly racing series divisions, which he requested “be split evenly between all the weekly drivers.” Douglas had a huge heart and felt sorry for the drivers that would finish in last place or not do well and this is why he wished for the money to go to every driver, not just the winners. Each of the weekly racers received an extra $23 at the pay window from Brockert’s donation.

The B-Mod main event began with multiple time champion Jacob Ebert and Michael Taylor III showing the way. Ebert grabbed the lead and held off a fury of drivers to maintain his spot. Taylor, Kyle Russell, Jeremy Lile, and Terry Schultz were strong early in the event after a pair of false starts. By the halfway mark, Schultz began pressuring for a spot in the top three as the leaders battled through lapped traffic. At the 15-lap point, Ebert flexed some muscle and began to add distance between himself and his closest pursuers as the trio of Taylor, Schultz, and Sturgis Streeter battled for the second spot. In the end, Ebert picked up his 48th career victory over a very strong run from Taylor in second. Schultz, Streeter, and eleventh-starting Jake Richards rounded out the top five.

For the 20-lap main event, defending national POWRi champion Aaron Poe and veteran Chad Lyle began the main event from the front row with Poe quickly darting out to an early race lead. Dean Wille and Nick Gibson were solid inside the top five behind the lead duo.

The red flag flew over the main event at lap 15, as previously mentioned. as the race had just seen a lead change at lap 15 when Blaine Ewing of Green Ridge overtook race-long leader Aaron Poe under the flag stand. Dean Wille, Nick Gibson, and Chris Kircher rounded out the top five.

After the delay, drivers were allowed to put air back in their tires before the start of the final five laps. Ewing resumed command of the race and stood pressure from Poe and Wille in a fierce battle for the win. In the end, Ewing prevailed for his second-career CMS victory with Poe second, Wille third, Nick Gibson fourth, and Devin Irvin fifth.

David Doelz of Warsaw and Mallory Stiffler of Hoyt, Kansas, earned the front-row positions for the POWRi Pure Stock 15-lap main event. Terry Moss was the driver on the move in the race’s early stages as he paced the field as sixth-starting Spencer Reiff worked his way to second position. By lap nine, Reiff began pressuring Moss for the lead and at the lap 10 mark, moved to the front of the field. The next lap saw Moss retake the lead as the pair continued their close race. Reiff eventually regained the lead in the spirited battle and went on to score his 16th victory at CMS. Moss settled for second with Doelz third, Evans fourth, and Darrin Christy completing the top five. The race went caution free for all 15 laps.

David Wood and Dave Meyer began the 20-lap Midwest Mod main event from the front row with Meyer holding strong at the front of the field. The veteran paced the field at fierce clip with Wood trying to keep pace. Meyer kept his pace the entire race distance with Wood keeping him in sight but unable to mount a challenge. Meanwhile Dustin Dennison and Dave Meyer’s son Brian, were in a close battle for the third position. The elder Meyer threaded his way through lapped cars as he kept Wood behind him and went on to score his 35th career CMS victory. Wood had a strong debut in his car in second, followed by Dennison, Brian Meyer, and Joe Beard to round out the top five. The race ran without a caution flag for the 20-lap duration.
