(Warrensburg, Missouri) Cliff Harris Warrensburg Ford and Chrysler night at the races marked week two of the 2023 championship season. There were 53 POWRi-sanctioned race teams on hand, among them were 20 B-Mods, 18 Super Stocks, 4 Pure Stocks, and 11 Midwest Mods.
During the intermission break, drivers made their way through the grandstands and pit area for a ‘helmet , The generous fans and drivers helped raise funds for the Zeller family and Several drivers in the Super Stock division donated all or some of their main event purse money. CMS will announce a grand total in the coming days once all donations are totaled.

Sedalia, Missouri’s Bronson Wicker and Oak Grove’s Jacob Ebert led the strong field of POWRi B-Mods to the initial green flag for the B-Mod 20-lap night cap. Ebert quickly established himself a front-runner as he set his sights on two wins in a row. Wicker, Schultz, and Jeremy Lile held a spot inside the top five early in the race with Evert comfortably showing the way. A caution slowed the field at lap nine with another quick yellow flag not soon after. By now, Evert led Schultze and sixth-starting Cody Brill, who made his way to third. Some of the best racing so far this season took place among Schutlz, Brille, Stephen Clancy, and Sturgis Streeter, all fighting for the second spot. At lap 16, the final yellow flag flew on the field as Schultz began to put heavy pressure on Ebert for the lead on the high side. Over the last few laps, Schultz continued his quest for the win and eventually made the move to the front late in the race to secure his 79th career CMS win. Ebert came up one spot shy of two wins in a row with Schultz’s late-race pass relegating him to second. Clancy fought hard for a third-place finish, followed by Brill and Streeter to round out the top five.

It was a tough night for the Super Stock drivers as the thought of Andy Zeller weighed heavily on the minds of the 18 drivers lined up to compete in the 20-lap main event. Several cautions fell over the field before Aaron Poe emerged as the victor. Several drivers had difficulty navigating turns three and four. Despite the cautions, there were several side-by-side battles for position throughout the field. Poe kept his machine out front, leaving Chad Lyle, once again substitute driving in the Marc Carter-owned number 10, battling for second position all-race long with last week’s winner Blaine Ewing. Dean Wille and John Brooks also had strong runs inside the top five through the midway point of the race. After one final late-race restart, Poe fought off a low-side charge by Lyle to collect his 29th career CMS win. (Note, corrected feature count from the previous week). Lyle ran second with Ewing third. Dean Wille finished fourth after losing his father earlier in the week, while Larry Ferris fought hard for a spot inside the top five.

Shawn Burns and Jacob Hall occupied the front row for the 15-lap Midwest Mods main event, and it was Hall who sailed to the front of the field to set a torrid pace. After a pair of early cautions flew over the field. Drivers raced hard for positions behind Hall. Sixth-starting Shaunie Lanning made her way to the top three to pressure Burns for second past the midway point. Hall built a sizeable lead over the battle for second as Dave Meyer held down third. As the laps wound down, it was evident Hall was the driver to beat on this night as he went on to collect his second-ever CMS victory ahead of Lanning, Myer, Burns, and Dustin Dennison in fifth.

POWRi Pure Stocks – 4 Entries
With a light field of only four cars, the Pure Stocks ran one single 10-lap event, which was scored as a main event. Promoter Earl Walls paid the full purse as the “drivers that are here showed up to race and they should not be punished for that. We hope that more drivers will come out and race in the future.” Spencer Reiff led the field from green to checkers and claimed his 17th-career CMS victory in the process with Terry Moss running a solid second over Ricky Tanner and Mallory Stiffler.

Action resumes next Saturday for the first special event of the year on Seeburg Muffler night for the 4th Annual SLMR Late Model Rumble! The Nebraska-based group will compete for a $3,000-to-win top prize. POWRi B-Mods, POWRi Super Stocks, POWRi Pure Stocks, and POWRi Midwest Mods will also compete in full weekly championship points-earning heat races and main events.
