(Warrensburg, Missouri) The annual two-night Memorial Day weekend events kicked off Saturday evening at Central Missouri Speedway with 86 race teams on hand in five POWRi-sanctioned divisions. There were 26 B-Mods, 25 Super Stocks, 18 Midwest Mods, 5 Pure Stocks, and 12 Lightning Sprints. All total, 11 heat races and 5 main events were run during the program.

The decision was made after the conclusion of racing on Saturday, to remove the Pure Stocks from the Sunday race program. The revised lineup for Sunday night will now include POWRi B-Mods, Super Stocks, and Lightning Sprints.

Stephen Clancy and Patrick Royalty brought the B-Mod field to green flag conditions for their 25-lap main event with Clancy trying to hold down the top spot until a rare early spin dropped him from contention. Cole Campbell moved to the front as the field resumed racing with Royalty, Sturgis Streeter, and Cody Brill following close behind. Yellow flew over the field just after halfway with Campbell, Royalty, Streeter, and Brill locked inside the top four. Colson Kirk, who started fourteenth had an amazing charge to the front as he moved inside the top five, and eventually the top three by lap 19. Terry Schultz was another driver on the move after starting twelfth on the grid. In the final circuits, Campbell and Royalty separated themselves from all pursuers for a two-man breakaway. Campbell once again proved too strong as he went on to collect the victory over Royalty. Kirk was solid in third at the line, followed by Schultz, ad Brill.

Blaine Ewing and Derek Henson earned top starting honors for the 25-lap Super Stock main event. A yellow flag flew to right out of the starting line and drivers quickly regrouped to start the race with Ewing, Chad Lyle, and Henson fighting for the top spot. Lyle eventually emerged with the top spot and by lap ten led Ewing, and a spirited run by Ted Welschmeyer with Aaron Poe and Henson holding down fourth and fifth. Lap 14 saw a caution fly over the field with Lyle showing the field to green for the restart. A pair of cautions flew late in the race before setting up one of the most exciting closing stages of a race in recent memory as Lyle received heavy pressure from Welschmeyer, who ran a solid line to the outside of Lyle after moving to second at lap 21. For the final three laps, the pair ran clean and side-by-side in an intense battle for the win, that went right down to the finish, in which Lyle just edged Welschmeyer by .036 of a second! For Lyle it was his second win of the season, leaving Welschmeyer to settle for second on this night. Ewing held strong for third with Aaron Poe and Henson completing the top five.

Jacob Hall of Wheatland, Missouri and Cole Ryun earned the front-row positions for the 20-lap Midwest Mods main event with Hall quickly grabbing the lead as Ryun and Dustin Dennison battle for second. After a quick yellow inside the first five laps, Hall again paced the field over Pete Richardson, who made the long haul from Springfield, Missouri. At the halfway marker, Hall continued his torrid pace at the front of the field ahead of Richardson, and eight-starting Mitch Coulter of Fort Scott, Kansas. Yellow flew again on lap 14, bunching the field with Hall showing the way. Coulter and Richardson then had a classic battle for second place until debris caused a late-race caution. For the restart, Hall went untouched up front and grabbed another CMS victory in the process. The battle for second went right down to the wire with Coulter prevailing over Richardson in third. Eleventh-starting Matthew Kay made his presence known with a strong run to fourth while Dave Meyer rounded out the top five.

POWRi Pure Stocks – 5 Entries
With a small field of cars on hand, the Pure Stocks only competed in one event for the night, which was a quickly ran 10-lap main event won by multiple-time track champion, Spencer Reiff over Justin McDowell, Preston McDowell, Mallory Stiffler, and Blaine Nolker. The win was Reiff’s third of the year at CMS.

Josiah King and Trice Roden took front row honors for the 15-lap sprint main event, and it was these two drivers who broke out to an early race two-man battle for the victory. A quick caution on lap seven reset the field with Jeff Bard and Mark Billings trying to gain on the leaders. In the end, Roden proved too strong and went on to capture the victory by 4.2 seconds over King. Jeff Bard was third, followed by Mark and Ken Billings to round out the top five.

Action continues Sunday, May 28 for the second-consecutive night of Memorial Day Weekend events at CMS. B-Mods will highlight the night with a 30-lap, $2,000-to-win main event. POWRi Super Stocks return for another $1,000-to-win, 25-lap main event. POWRi Lightning Sprints also return for a second night of action.
