TriCity VS Gateway

There is a power pole down in the swamp just outside of town at Gateway. They have not even started the race and might not even get it in. How are things at TriCity? a buddy of mine at Gateway says a lot of people are leaving and headed to TriCity.

Another black eye for Gateway. What a joke. Will be shocked if they have any races at all in the next 5 years. Curious how many tickets they sold.

The power outage is 5 miles away from the track. How can that be Gateways fault? Seems to me if you want to blame anyone ask why there are power lines in a swamp?

There is swamp land somewhere in East St. Louis. Somewhere around where they are talking about building the new highway that will cross the river. Was told if you have truck tickets you can stay for both races tomarrow. Wish I was off I would find some truck tickets and go. Oh well

I'm not saying it is their fault or blaming them. Doesn't really matter who is at fault...it looks bad for the track.

Ya the track don't seem to be doing all that good. But both sides of the river don't promote racing good at all. One would think if you got somewhat of big racing in town you would promote it to draw intrest. Heck Kevin at TC promotes gateway better than anyone.

going off this subject. didnt bob geischel, prob spelled wrong, have som 2 do with that track in the 70s. maybe a contractor when it was built back then

I thought personally it was weird that just when the lights were needed.......bam. Power went out. Happened last year too. But i seen the line later....after going through the maze to get out of there. Man that was a mess. Not the tracks fault but yea.....doesnt make them look any better. If they are ever going to get a cup date.....they need to have a backup plan or something. It was crazy outside too. All the ATMs went down and all the vendors wanted cash. They turned off the chillers and everyone was hot. I lost 20 bucks......i was getting it out of the ATM when bam....it shut down and never gave me my money. but they also charged my account.....lol. And to top that....the number on the scott credit union machine........its unavailable. I am going to my bank and going to try to get it taken off.

And im not blaming the track.it was just a weird set of circumstances. Too bad i cant go today.......but it was fun seeing the vendors earlier......watching qualifying. Daughter was mad....lol. We drove home..went right by Tri City.....they were still running..and place was packed!!! Imagine that.....dirt place was packed. Truck race wasnt even close. Says something about dirt racing for sure

you would think Gateway would run on generators kinda like tri city ,imagine that dirt track packed nascar track not

I have a question for all of the great racing minds on here. Last week, I was reading the Breese Journal. The have a column that covers some of the high points in local news twenty-five years ago. It reported that on July 5, 1985 it was announced during intermission at Tri-City Speedway that it was the last night for racing at the track. The track would be closed and put up for sale. Is this when Bob Wente bought the track? If yes, who did he buy it from?

We went to Gateway and got the headsup that it was postponed from some chic's at the pizza hut booth that we asked why they were packing up, this was 30 mins before they finally announced it to the fans, so all four of headed to tri-city to get our racing fix for the nite, it was awsome no one was at the pay booth so we just bolted in like we owned the place and the other best part is was the feature's were just starting.....oh and forgot to mention that the truck tickets were free as well and now we can get in and watch both races today for free if i wanted but i will be at I-55 to help support our local track.

P.S
Was my first time watchin them crate's and really think its an amazing class and also that 24 car in the modified's "W0W" what can i say he is fast and all the mod's put on a great show last nite

Why wouldnt gateway have generators just incase this happens. Really not upto the standards of nascar tracks !!

Does anyone know if the track even has power yet??? I'm sure Gateway won't tell their customers(the fans) if the power is still off. They will let them sit, in the heat this time, for 2 hours past the Nationwide start time! We have been to every oval track race gateway has had since '97, and it's always been a third rate facility! The rest rooms are falling apart, the turn 1 & 2 grandstand is filthy with bird crap, the P.A system doesn't work on the turn 1 end, you can't hear any announcements or opening prayer from the best seats in the place! However, they did convince some pigeons to fly past after the National Anthem, for a very environmentally friendly fly-by!! And to top it all off, no Kyle Busch?! Love him or hate him he puts on a great show, and sells tickets.
Last night, before the power fiasco, I did a rough count of the attendance, excluding infield and came up with approx. 2500 fans. Was it a power failure or couldn't they afford to turn on the lights?!!!
If you are still waiting for gateway to get a cup event, stop dreaming and go to a race at a real track, like atlanta and see for yourself. The End.
