Farmington, MO – (September 25) – The man from down under came to town and will take the Queens crown back to Sydney, Australia. Ian Madsen in the TK Concrete, Tony’s Auto Parts, Maxim Trucking Concrete entry put on a show for the locals to capture his first Queens Victory. Starting the Main inside of row three, Madsen fell to fifth at the drop of the flag. Tim Montgomery, Robbie Standridge, Keith Burch and Jerrod Hull pulled away. The thirty-lap affair ran eleven laps before the first caution came out. Robbie Standridge had just taken the lead going down the back straight. When he came into turn three the in the middle of his groove was the stalled car of Jason Hunt. Robbie slid his car sideway to avoid a direct hit on Hunt. Both cars were able to continue, but had to start at the end of the field. With the field bunched up for the restart, Madsen began to work his magic toward the front. Caution number 2 came out again for Jason Hunt in his mount and with this being his second push was relegated to the pit area. Two more caution flags appeared for the connected cars of Kevin Lee and A J Bruns and one for Tommy Worley for a stalled car. Early front runner Tim Montgomery had issues with his car and fell back in the field and came home with a 18th place showing. At the finish following Madsen are Past All Star Champion Greg Wilson for second, third belongs to Jerrod Hull. Fourth place honors go to Keith Burch and completing the top five Fairmount, IN driver Brandon Wimmer. During qualifying for the event Keith Burch established a new track record by turning a lap of 11.143. Robbie Standridge and Tim Montgomery also broke the old record, which was held by Lee Dunn, with a time of 11.283. That record was established in October of 1998. Dunn is also a past winner of the Queens as he captured the event in 1997. Special Thanks goes to Boen’s Signs, Lines and Designs for putting up $100 to win for the Sprint Dash.
Modified Mania III belonged to “The Kidd”, Billy Smith. For the second time in the three years Smith claimed the top spot. It was not an easy task for Smith as he had to deal with hard charging Jeremy Greenwalt. When the flag flew to start Smith got the jump into the first turn over Mike Francis, Greenwalt, Kasey Nations and Brian Worley. Four early caution flags slowed the event. Kasey Nation spun his car after hitting the wall and again on the restart. His night was finished. The yellow was displayed on laps 3 and 4 for Dave Johnston and Jeff Taylor for minor infractions. This restart found a newcomer to the to top five, Tony Anglin, Hoxie, AR., in the third position. Anglin would be a part of the three car horse race for the win. Using the high line, Anglin got great runs on both leaders, but came up just short and had to settle for a third place finish in his first attempt at Modified Mania. Last years winner Brent Thompson came through the field from 13th starting spot to finish 4th with Brian Worley completing the top five. Starting in the 18th position, Joey Walsh takes home the Custom Craft Race Engines Hard Charger Award. Others helping to make Modified Mania III a success are Jim and Bob Black from Brother Salvage, Randy Elliott of Elliott Motor Company, Jerry West from Boyer Lumber, Kevin Politte of Southpaw Graphix, Ron Boyd of Ron’s Tire Center, Jerry Reeves – Clark Rush Hour, Tim and Joey Montgomery – The Parts Store, Mike and Michelle Francis – The Flower Box, Brian Blair – All Type Contracting and Custom Craft Race Engines.
The Pure Street Division has its own string going and Jimmy Farris makes it five wins in a row. After finishing third in the season point standing, Farris has hit on the combination. Always a competitor and hard runner he has had his share of bad luck, but told us to look out next year. Charlie Savage, a winner in 2010, took the point in a race that seemed more like an enduro or survival race. Several attempts were made to ge the race started, but the drivers could not seem to get a grip on the track. Once they did seven laps went by before the caution came out for Chris Brayton’s spinning car. The restart found Farris pulling away for the win with Charlie Savage in the runner-up position, followed by Kenny Kennedy in third, Jason Neel for fourth and last weeks runner-up Dusty Homan in fifth. 2010 Champion Chris Boyd took the night off and will celebrate his championship in December at the awards banquet.
The B-Mods had to deal with some sprinkling of rain that carried over from the Pure Street Feature. Brian Richards, Pacific, MO had a book end season as he won on his first attempt and his last run of the season. Richards, Shane Blair, Kyle Stolzer, Shannon Burch and Chuck Huff took the field through turn one and the chase was on. Lap three the red flag came out as Mitchell Landrum spun his car. Ken Kraft almost his him head on and Darren Martin plowed in and ruptured the fuel cell on the Kraft machine. Cars could not be moved until all the fuel had drained below the puncture line. Safety crews the lit the fuel to burn it off. Richards was followed by Blair in second, Eddie Gross finishes third with Stolzer claiming fourth and Shannon Burch completing the top five.
