$100,000 to win Modified Race in 2004

LOCUST GROVE AR. Mooney Starr, owner and promoter of the Batesville Speedway has long been known as one of the premier inovators and showmen of dirt track racing. Starr stunned the drivers in attendance of the 8th Annual TCI Automotive Mid-America Modified Championship announcing plans for a $100,000 to win race for Modifieds in 2004.

The event has yet to be named, and details about format for qualifying and the date for the race have are still in the works. Starr, however, can be counted on to put this event together, and deliver it early in the 2004 racing season. Without a doubt, this will be the biggest event in the history of Modified racing.

Starr commented about where this idea came from. "This is undobtedly the biggest class of race cars in America. It's gotten to the point where they can race for some good money, but nothing really big. I like Late Models, but Modifieds always turn out in a big way for any special I put on for them, and I think it's time for this class to be rewarded with this kind of a race."

Starr already has two bigger Modified events, the Mid-America Modified Championship, and the World Modified Championship. Will this race replace either or both of those races? "No, we'll run both of those shows, and I'm planning on reserving provisonal starting positions for the winners of those races in this new race. The winner of the World Modified Championship this fall will get a spot guarenteed, and then the winner of the Mid-America Modified Championship in the Spring will get a spot too."

Starr will also be in search of a title sponsor for the event. "Everybody knows that sponsorship is a must in racing. You just can't do the things you want to do without it. For an event that will be as prestigious as this will be, we will be looking for a nationally known sponsor to get behind this race. I'm confident that there will be potential sponsors out there that will want to be involved in this."

Starr was uncertain as to a date for the event, but plans on running it in the spring of 2004 on an off weekend for NASCAR. With his connections in world of NASCAR racing, Starr was confident that he would be able to secure entries from several Winston Cup regulars for a race of this magnatude.
