(Macon, IL) As the checkered flag waved for the final time in the 2009 racing season, the attention will begin to shift towards the 65th consecutive year of operation of Macon Speedway in 2010.

Unforgettable moments were packed into the third year of the new ownership regime with NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace and local promoter Bob Sargent. Moments that included the return to the speedway for Stewart and the visit of Mark Martin in early September for the make-up of the NASCAR Night II will be remembered as the season closed. Kasey Kahne came through the gates to sign autographs and mingle with the Macon Speedway audience in 2009, as well.

Two racing divisions came down to the final night to determine the 2009 track champion, in the Modified and Street Stocks classes. Dave Crawley, Jr. came into the final night with a 24-point cushion over Joe Strawkus. Blake Shelley only led Steve Ewing by two points as the season’s final night arrived. Both leaders were in search of their first track championship.

Earlier in the season, Kyle Logue took his second Late Model track championship and Rick Roedel won his first track championship in the Touchstone Energy Sportsman division. Joe Reed, the 2008 UMP National Hornet Champion, laid claim to the 2009 Macon Speedway Pro Hornet track championship.

Averaging a weekly car count in triple-digits, Macon Speedway raced six UMP sanctioned divisions in 2008, and saw much higher numbers in each division as the season went through the summer.

For the first time since 2004, Macon Speedway raced into October and though fall-like weather plagued the night’s racing, both crowd and cars showed up in numbers to get a final glimpse of their favorite drivers and their favorite dirt track.

With the economy slowly coming back, Macon Speedway’s staff, owners and drivers would like thank the sponsors and fans of the track for unbelievable support throughout 2009 as we look forward to entertaining the entire family in 2010 and beyond.
