ASH FLAT, AR - West Plains Motor Speedway is preparing to open it's gates for the 16th season. The new schedule includes three open track practice sessions, March 5, 12 and 26, before the regular points season gets underway on April 2. An early season highlight, the Justin Stanfill Memorial Modified Special is set for March 17-19.

The 6th annual 3-day modified event sponsored by Dirt Work's Race Cars of Walker, MO, officially kicks off the racing season at WPMS. Traditionally a good field of modified teams from all across the nation participate in this early season event that boasts a hefty purse of over $40,000.

The winner's share of the purse will put $8,000 up for grabs. The least amount paid out in the feature will be $800 as a 24-car field takes to the super smooth 3/8th mile red clay oval located 6 miles south of West Plains, MO, on Saturday March 19.

There will be three qualifying rounds to set the field for Saturday's feature event. Each night, the drivers will draw for heat race starting positions, with the top finishers going to a nightly qualifying feature where the top 8 transfer to the feature event which will follow the round three qualifying action on Saturday night.

Any driver who does not make the main event through the nightly qualifying feature can return for the next night's qualifying action to try again. There is a $150 early entry fee if sent in by March 1, and at the gate $175 will be required.

Even though this is not an IMCA sanctioned event, IMCA rules will basically apply with the exception of a $750 motor claim/exchange rule. The weight rule is set at 2450 lbs., with the driver after the race. With aluminum heads an additional 50 lbs. will be required in front of the bellhousing.

General admission gates will open at 5 p.m. each night, with racing getting underway at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission will be $8 for adults and $3 for kids 7-11 yrs. old, the first two nights. Saturday night admission will be $12 for adults and $4 for kids 7-11 yrs. old. Kids 6 & under are always free at WPMS. Pit admission will be $25 Thursday and Friday, the final night will be $30.
