Memphis, Tennessee (09/25/12) - In the most dramatic finale of the two year existence of the COMP Cams Interstate Sprint Car Trophy Cup presented by Dixon Road U-Pull-It A.G. Rains claimed the title by two points over Cody Gardner.

Heading into the finale the point's battle showed that A.G. Rains held an eight point advantage over Cody Gardner. With two points per position on the line Rains had a less than great start to the night, when he flipped in his heat race. As a result he started sixteenth on the feature grid, while Gardner started third. As Gardner battled for the lead for much of the event Rains worked his way through the field. A late-race flip for Zach Pringle set up a green-white-checkered finish, where Cody Gardner claimed the win, while Rains finished fifth. With the apparent finishes the two drivers tied at 1,246 points in the final standings. The tie breaker in the series was number of feature wins, and Gardner had three to Rains single win. As a result, Gardner was the apparent champion.

However, with a dead tie in points after the final event of the fourteen race series, the point tallies for each individual event were rechecked on Tuesday, September 25th. A mistake was discovered on the June 16th, 2012 event at Riverside International Speedway, where even though Jan Howard won and Cody Gardner finished second Gardner was incorrectly credited with first place points (100 points) and Jan Howard was incorrectly credited with second place points (98 points). This mistake was fixed, which adjusted Gardner's total to 98 points for the night and gave him a final total of 1,244 points. As a result Rains claimed the championship by two markers to score his second COMP Cams Interstate Sprint Car Trophy Cup presented by Dixon Road U-Pull-It. Gardner finished second, while Jan Howard, Ernie Ainsworth, Rick Pringle, Robert Richardson, and Johnny Gardner rounded out the final standings. The point's money and certificates will be presented to the eligible drivers shown below during the 25th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) on October 25th-27th, 2012.
