Concord, NC-November 7, 2010- Jason Meyers used two wins during the Fourth Annual Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals Presented By Bimbo Bakeries and Tom's Snacks to wrap up the 2010 championship to become just the eighth driver ever to win a title in the series 30-plus year history and the first from the state of California.
Meyers won a career high 12 A-Feature this season at 11 different tracks in 10 different states and one Canadian Province. The native of Clovis, California led the series in bonus points earned in time trials, which are awarded to the Top-Five in qualifying each night. He also was tied for the series lead in fast time honors with 10. The veteran racked up 56 Top-10 finishes with 36 Top-Five performances en route to his first championship after finishing second three times in his career including in each of the last two years.
Donny Schatz, who set fast time for the finale of the World Finals to earn five bonus points, finished fourth in the opener on Saturday and was seventh in the finale to wrap the season up second in points. The four-time series champion has now finished among the Top-Five nine times in his career including in each of the last eight years. The North Dakota native won five times in 2010 and was second in Top-Five finishes with 37 and ended up with 54 Top-10 runs.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, came home seventh in the opener of the World Finals and was 13th in the finale on his way to finishing third in points in his first season driving for Tony Stewart Racing as a teammate to Schatz, which marked the 27th time in his amazing career that he has finished among the Top-Three in the final rundown. He led the series with 57 Top-10 finishes and 38 Top-Fives, winning nine times along the way to bring his career total to a staggering 561 A-Feature triumphs.
Joey Saldana, who led the World of Outlaws with 13 A-Feature wins this season, ran second in the opener of the World Finals and was ninth in the nightcap to finish fourth in points, just four markers behind Kinser. Saldana and his Kasey Kahne Racing team ended up second in owner points, after Brad Sweet filled in for Saldana at Lernerville in late September when the veteran was forced to miss the Commonwealth Clash with a concussion. Jason Sides finished ninth in the opener of the World Finals and backed that up with a fourth-place performance to lock down the fifth spot in points for the second consecutive year, setting career highs in Top-10 finishes with 53 and Top-Fives with 26, while also winning a career-best four times to double his career total. Paul McMahan finished sixth in the opener of the World Finals and was eighth in the finale on his way to finishing a career-best sixth in points on the strength of 51 Top-10 finishes with 30 Top-Five performances, as he filled in for the injured Cody Darrah this season. He won once in 2010, with that coming at the famed Eldora Speedway back in May. His Kasey Kahne Racing team ended up fifth in the owner standings as Brad Sweet opened the year in the car at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida, before McMahan joined the team at Las Vegas.
Craig Dollansky ended up seventh in points in his first season driving for owner Tod Quiring and the Big Game Motorsports Team.
