Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (August 19, 2019) – Mayhem and a potential big cash giveaway to a lucky fan along with numerous other giveaways are on tap for Saturday night as racing action kicks back into high gear atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kansas.
Saturday’s card is headlined by the popular Sixth Annual Sport Modified Mayhem event with the IMCA Sport Modifieds battling it out for a $1,000 winner’s share. The card is rounded out by a full slate of championship chase action including Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.
Racing action will get under way at 7:30 p.m.
Along with the tremendous racing action, a lucky fan could pocket as much as $1,500 during the evening. Someone’s ticket will be drawn for the opportunity to roll three dice. Each roll will be worth $500 with three successful rolls netting $1,500.
Woodward, Oklahoma’s Mike Roach reigns as the defending champion of Sport Modified Mayhem after beating Brandon Kenney and 2017 winner Dustin Daniels to the line to become the first two-time winner of the event after topping his first edition in 2015.
Along with Roach and Daniels, other past Sport Modified Mayhem winners include Kaleb Roach in 2016 and Clay Money in the inaugural rendition in 2014.
The IMCA Sport Modifieds have offered up a half dozen winners in nine events atop DCRP clay this season with Dakota Sproul atop the win charts with three triumphs and defending track champion Jeff Kaup with two wins. Those posting single wins include Travis Burger, Mike Lunow, Alex Wiens and Ryan Kirchoff.
Gunning for a sixth track championship in the last seven years, Woodward’s Kaup holds a 37 point lead over Bart Baker in the DCRP championship chase with Brian May and Mike Lunow next on the point chart. Siblings Kyle and Alex Wiens enter the event tied for fifth.
Others leading the way into Saturday’s action include Luke Cranston in DCRP Sprint Cars, William Nusser in IMCA Modifieds, Angel Munoz in IMCA Stock Cars and Reagan Sellard in IMCA Hobby Stocks.
Cranston has picked off three wins to open up a 93 point advantage in the Sprint Car ranks over Jeremy Huish, who won the last time out on July 26. Nusser holds a 30 point lead in IMCA Modifieds over Clay Sellard, who had his three-race win streak snapped last time out.
Munoz has won six of nine features to slip out to a 76 point lead over Chris Oliver in the Stock Car chase while Reagan Sellard is 145 points ahead of Skeets Salazar in the Hobby Stock title chase as he vies for a third consecutive track championship on the strength of four wins.
The Sixth Annual Sport Modified Mayhem feature payout is as follows: 1st - $1,000, 2nd - $750, 3rd - $500, 4th - $400, 5th - $350, 6th - $300, 7th - $250, 8th - $200, 9th - $175, 10th - $150, 11th - $125, 12th - $100, 13th - $100, 14th - $100, 15th - $100, 16th - $75, 17th - $75, 18th - $75, 19th - $75, 20th - $75.
