Adrian,MO- The toughest little quarter mile dirt track in Missouri , Adrian Speedway , is getting ready to host the 5th Annual Vern Claiborne Memorial Top Gun Shootout for modifieds on June 7th. Thanks to alot of help from alot
of people this race has become very popular over the years. The 2007 race hosted drivers from seven states ranging from South Dakota to Texas. This years event is going to be just as popular as entries have already been recieved from Larry Sanders & Russell Moore of Texas,Tim North from Kansas,Chris Prussman from South Dakota and Craig Wood from Missouri. Promotor Glen Portzen always enjoys hosting special events like these, especially the memorial races."It seems like the guys just drive harder at those type races",Portzen saids,"it just means more to them". Last years event was no exception as Johnny Fennewald used the high groove to battle door to door with Eddie Bray for the win. They were followed closely by Josh Poe and Curtis Allen who were staging their own battle.

This race is also very popular because of the purse structure in the feature's plus bonus dash's during the night. The race is a tribute to Vern Claiborne who was a popular promotor at several race tracks around the Kansas City
area. He lost his life in a car accident on his way home from watching his son, modified driver Andy Claiborne, compete at Topeka Raceway."My dad loved racing and loved race drivers. His enjoyment came from talking to the
guys in the pits", said Claiborne of his father. Last year the purse was increased from it's original format, and now pays $1000 to win and $120 to start. The "B" feature purses are even increased for the 2008 race.Past winners of this race are Chuck McCartney,Matt Johnson,Trey Todd and Fennewald.Sponsor's for this years event include :

The Driving School, Dirt Works Race Cars, S&S Motorsports, Signs By Robbie,Hibbs Funeral Home and Hoffman Race Cars.
