BEAR LAKE, PA – Sept. 16, 2010 – Chub Frank turned plenty of heads with the new green-and-black ‘Chubzilla’ themed graphics scheme he debuted on his car during last weekend’s 40th annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

But the 48-year-old standout from Bear Lake, Pa., didn’t have any luck on the track – and as a result, he fell short of making the A-Main cut for dirt Late Model racing’s most prestigious event.

Frank’s frustrating weekend began during Friday night’s Round 1 of time trials when his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota Rocket was damaged from a trip into the wall. He timed only 72nd-fastest overall out of 134 entrants and never quite recovered, failing to advance into a transfer spot in one of Saturday evening’s 15-lap heat races or the second 20-lap B-Main.

After moving forward from the 12th starting to finish sixth in the sixth and final heat, Frank was in contention for a top-four finish in the second B-Main that would have sent him to the $43,000-to-win headliner. But on lap seven – while running sixth – he was swept up in another driver’s homestretch spin. He pitted to change a tire and returned, but he only managed to finish 10th and was forced to load up early.

“The right-front folded under (the nose) during time trials and I went straight in the wall,” said Frank, who won the World 100 in 2004. “That pretty much ended our chances of a good qualifying lap and put us behind for the rest of the weekend. We worked on the car and I think we had it good enough to make it (into the World 100) in the B, but then a guy spun out at the flagstand right in front of me, clipped me and spun me out.

“That’s just the way racing goes sometimes. You deal with it and move on.”

Frank will try to put the disappointing weekend behind when he travels to the Midwest this Saturday (Sept. 18) for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Pepsi Nationals’ at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo. His busy day will begin with a pre-race appearance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on behalf of LaCrosse Footwear outside the nearby Dunn’s Sporting Goods store located at 8733 Commercial Blvd. in Pevely, Mo.

Frank will display his black-and-green car and sign autographs for fans during the special Saturday appearance, which will also include a live radio-station remote broadcast; free giveaways of tickets to Saturday night’s Pepsi Nationals as well as LaCrosse boots, t-shirts, hats and stickers; and the LaCrosse Extreme Tough Challenge fan competition that gives customers a chance to test their strength and win prizes.

Following his visit to Dunn’s Sporting Goods, Frank will head over to I-55 Raceway to chase a $10,000 victory in the evening’s 55-lap A-Main. He finished second in his last WoO LMS start at I-55, in September 2008.
