CAMARGO, Ill. (March 20, 2003) - The All Star Circuit of Champions, presented By Haulmark Race Trailers Inc. will pay a record cash points fund of $160,000 to the top dozen owners and drivers at the conclusion of the 2003 season. The series points champion will pocket a $50,000 award with $25,000 to the runner-up, making it the largest overall total point fund payout in the 23-year history of the sprint car racing series.
The announcement was made by President and owner of the All Stars, Guy Webb. "When I took over the All Stars, the owners and drivers told me the two issues I needed to address were increasing the number of races and increasing the points fund payout. I've addressed those items this year with an expanded schedule of events and the largest points fund payout in All Star history," Webb stated. "This increase was made possible by the number of sponsors we have added to support us this season."
The points fund will pay back twelve places, rather than ten as had been the recent custom. This move was made to reward the drivers who follow the entire tour and will also increase the level of competition and car counts throughout the season.
The year-end points fund will pay: 1. $50,000; 2. $25,000; 3. $17,000; 4. $12,500; 5. $10,000; 6. $9,000 7. $8,000; 8. $7,000; 9. $6,000; 10. $5,000; 11. $4,000; 12. $3,000.
In addition, the 2003 Rookie-of-the-Year will receive a $3,000 bonus and the Crew Chief of the Year will earn $500. Teams must be All Star members and participate in 65% of series events to be eligible for the points fund awards.
In other series news, Webb announced that Rex LeJeune has been hired as Race Coordinator to assist Competition Director Jack Hewitt in the pits at all races. LeJeune has extensive racing official experience as the former Competition Director of the WoO Gumout series and as a flagman for Eldora Speedway and Attica Raceway Park.
It was also announced that Steve Failor will be staying on this season as the new Technical Inspector. The trio of Hewitt, LeJeune and Failor will be part of a new, strong competition team that will uphold the All Star tradition of enforcing the rules equally and fairly for every race team. Finally, Scott Hall has also been retained as Media Relations Director. He is back for his 14th season in that position.
"America's Series, The All Star Circuit of Champions" will present a slate of 80 sprint car race dates in 2003 from February to October in action at 31 speedways in 17 states. America's favorite dirt track series is in its' 23rd year and has presented fans with the largest average car count and greatest number of different race winners in the United States over the past two decades. The next race on the All Star schedule is at Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth Friday and Saturday night March 28-29.
