All Stars Crown Chad Kemenah as 3-Time Champion

CAMARGO, IL – Mr. Consistency, Chad Kemenah, snared his third straight Haulmark All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car title in 2004. The 33-year-old Findlay, Ohio driver wheeled the Jim Harble Motorsports Kistler powered Eagle chassis to six feature wins, earning the series title by 274 points over 30 year veteran Danny Smith. He earned a $50,000 cash prize at the year-end All Star awards banquet.

Kemenah’s feature wins came at six different tracks in five different states and Canada, the St. Francois Co. Speedway in Farmington, MO, Attica (OH) Raceway Park, Tri-State Speedway (Haubstadt, IN), South Buxton Raceway (Ontario, CN), 81 Speedway (Wichita, KS) and El Paso (TX) Speedway Park. Kemenah led 147 laps over the season, had an amazing 40 top ten finishes out of the 43 features he competed in and had a dozen runner-up finishes.

He also won five dashes and five heat races along the way.

Smith visited victory lane three times at Paducah (KY) Int’l Raceway, Virginia Motor Speedway and at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL. Driving his own Doug Williams Trucking, Alan Kiger GMC No. 4, Smith had 39 top tens, three quick times, five dash wins and three heat wins.

Greg Wilson’s third place in the points was highlighted by four feature wins, a pair at the all new Lake Ozark (MO) Speedway and single wins at Macon (IL) Speedway and Southern New Mexico Speedway. A total of 27 top tens and 10 heat race wins, the most by any driver on the season, highlighted his accomplishments.

Fourth in points was 2004 Rookie-of-the-Year Jeremy Campbell. The Monroe, MI pilot earned his first career All Star win at Eldora Speedway in October and finished in the top ten 25 times. He recorded nine Haulmark Dash wins, tops in the series, along with eight heat race wins and one Huggins Cams quick time.

Brock Mayes was another rookie on the tour. The Bucyrus, Ohio driver recorded an even ten top ten finishes with a career best fifth place A main showing.

Tim Hunter and Paul May tied for sixth in series’ points. Hunter, from Killbuck, OH had his best run of third two times for eight top ten finishes. May, campaigning out of Terre Haute, IN, was third once with nine top tens. He also won eight heat races.

Phil Gressman split time between the Rob Robenalt No. 98 and Pete Grove’s No. 70, earning a $12,000 win at the Lawrenceburg Speedway Hoosier Fall Classic on the way to his eighth place finish in points. He had a dozen top tens with five heat wins.

Another rookie, Iowa’s Jon Agan, was ninth in points with five top tens and another five heat race wins in his own No. 4J.

Completing the top ten was Indiana veteran Bill Rose. Rose recorded 14 top tens, and logged a win as a car owner when Jeff Shepard drove his machine to victory lane at Butler Motor Speedway.

Eddie Lynch from Springfield, Illinois and Burton, Ohio’s Barry Ruble also raced at every All Star event, finishing 11th and 12th in season points.

On the car owner side of the slate, the winning team was the Harble Motorsports No. 15K, followed by Smith’s No. 4, Bob Hampshire’s No. 63(Wilson), Campbell’s No. 10c, Bill Rose’s No. 6, Mayes’ 11B, Pete Grove’s No. 70 (Ryan Coniam and Gressman), Hunter’s 2H and May’s 71m (tie) with Agan’s No. 4J tenth.

With 21 different race winners in 44 events run throughout 2004, other drivers visiting victory lane were Dale Blaney with seven wins (Fremont 2, Attica 2, Wayne County, Sharon and Gas City) and Jac Haudenschild (Butler, KC and Eldora) and Jeff Shepard (Butler, Lernerville and Sharon) with three apiece. Drivers with two wins each were Randy Hannagan (Eldora 2), Jason Johnson (Junction and Mid-Nebraska) and John Ivy (Fremont 2). Earning single wins in 2004 were Ed Lynch Jr. (Lernerville), Dean Jacobs West Virginia), Terry McCarl (Knoxville), Kerry Madsen (Knoxville), Shane Stewart (Jetmore), Fred Rahmer (Lincoln) and Johnny Herrera (Hollywood Hills). Capturing their first career All Star wins in ’04 were Tim Kaeding (Lima), Dustin Daggett (Hartford) and Bobby Clark (Sharon). A dozen events were washed out by Mother Nature.

Dale Blaney earned the Keco Cup for his Ohio Speedweek Championship. Speedweek was scheduled for eight straight nights of racing, but only six were completed with a pair of washouts. Eldora Speedway hosted the opener with Haudenschild the winner. The Sunday night Attica main fell to Blaney with Ivy winning Tuesday at Fremont. Wednesday at Sharon, Blaney visited victory lane and he won again the next night at Fremont. Kaeding captured Friday’s Limaland round with the finale at K-C falling to rain.

The Thunder Through the Plains Tour versus the NCRA was also run in August, with Jason Johnson winning the opening two events and Kemenah and Shane Stewart recorded the other Thunder wins.

The Fisher Performance Hard Charger for the season was May and Kemenah was the Huggins Cams Fast Qualifier for the year with 18 fast times and seven new track records. Brian Kemenah was the Crew Chief of The Year.

Statistically speaking, 19 drivers set quick time during the season with 44 events completed. Heat races fell to 81 different drivers, with 13 dash winners, 30 different B Main winners and 11 new track records. Laps were led by 39 different drivers with Blaney leading the most laps, 199. Average car count for the year was 38 with 53 entries at Eldora Speedway in October the most for a single day show and 80 at Knoxville the most for a two-day event.
