In 2004 all weekly regular classes at Tri-City will run on the 1/4 mile. Only special events will be on the half mile such as WoO and others.

Also hear Tri-City's late model class will become a full-blown steel block late model class. Big tires, 4 barrells, etc...

That's what I've heard, don't know if it is true or not. But I thought I would throw a good rumor out there.

Personal opinion only.........NASCAR ain't goin' anywhere! (sorry Dale). Love to see the latemodels with fat tires and 4 barrels......
might be cool to see them run on the quarter, but I'd like to see them do it on the big track! Nice rumor! Hope some of it is true!!!

i know

But that fee for the liscence runs too many people off,and doesnt let the others come run half a season.thats my only problem with it!

If you put them on d55s or lm40s and let them run on the half you might have something. The tire rule being most important. The cost difference of a steel block compared to a aluminum is about $1,500, and most good latemodel chassis can easily get good percentages with a steel block, that one rule really changes nothing.

why do all the tracks call these late models, the ones you are talking about at the beginning, ( steel blocks) . sure looks like cast iron to me! they should be called iron blocks! iguess only machinists would understand this one ?

Yes..i heard the same thing..nascar is downsizing..again. And the car counts..well..havent been good..so..the track in whole doesnt look too good for nascar to keep. I hate to see everything on the 1/4 mile..but..if it keeps his car counts up..he is a business man...he may have to step 15 yards back and punt so to speak. But to open the late models..and force them to race on the 1/4..well//means..less track left for the others. And I personally love the late models on the 1/2...if they are full blown. JMO thanks...mike

Well I want to chime in on this one. I for one would love to see the car count jump up to the 20 or 25 cars we all want to see on Saturdays but, it's just a dream. In 1997 Tom and I started racing together at tri-city and then we did not have that many cars with mods and there where many above avg. funded cars there. As pro stocks there where 18 cars regularly so (Bob dumped the mods the most popular race car in the area) now understand Bob called all of us in and went in detail about why and did we like it hell no! The next year as the pro stocks took to the feature class the numbers droped slowly through out the year even Tom and I put one together to race, later Ken Johnson bought the car turn key. Yet car counts still fell off. the year Burt Cheatham first showed up I spent a full year pushing him to race for the money before he tried it. And so each year we have had fewer and fewer cars till we are right back to about 12 most of the time.
For the last 2 years I have said I thought Bob would dump the class He raised from Pro stocks to todays cars because of car counts. In the last meeting he called he asked all of us if we wanted to go to the 1/4 mile and " said "we all" NO!. Bob then tried to explain to us it's the track not the car and we all had our own ideas as what where the problem. see next post

Now as for the rumor of the 1/4 mi. I have publicly stated that I believe this is where we probly will end up( god knows I love the 1/2mi in my book speed is where its at). But if you look at the other tracks we compete at here in st louis and around us that have reasonable car counts most are 1/4s and 3/8s and Late models blast there way around them too. So if it's the 1/4 mi we go "SO BE IT" If that"s what it takes to bring in race cars I'll change gears and race the 1/4mi. Now for the rest of the rumor
those of us at tri-city have been talking as a group from time to time about what we need to do as a class to bring in cars and we all agree more of a pay out like late models at other tracks is needed and to bring the cars in line with the other late models except yep here's the catch we agree that a Iron block is a budget item we all can afford and we agree that a 40 compound right rear tire UNCUT/NO SIPHIONING is in the budget's best intrest. Lets face it 5 classes on the 1/4 it might get a little slick!
Oh and as for "WE" sometimes thats me & me. but I thought this was about rumors too. OK let the bench racin begin!
