Inside Line Promotions - MOUNT POCONO, Pa. (Feb. 19, 2020) - Joey Amantea is opening his 2020 race season this weekend with a first-ever trip to compete in the 3rd annual East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals inside the CURE Insurance Arena.

The event in Trenton, N.J., features nearly 100 wingless 600cc sprints that are racing on an indoor banked, clay oval in chase of a $5,000 prize for the winner of the Saturday night portion. The event begins on Friday.

Amantea believes his team has a shot to turn a few heads this weekend.

"It's literally an ice hockey rink turned into a dirt track for the weekend," he said. "I've been to the race as a visitor before, but now I'm looking forward to being able to participate as a racer. These types of races are tough as you don't really know what you're getting into. But with a little luck I think we can do as well as anybody can and I look forward to the challenge."

The two-race weekend kicks off a busy season that will see the young driver aim to compete in approximately 85 races, including a first-ever venture behind the wheel of a wingless 360 sprint car.

Thanks to the Burke Family, Amantea is going to run approximately 20 races with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars. Not only will it be a new division, but it will take the young Mount Pocono, Pa., native to visit new tracks he hasn't ran at before.

"This is an opportunity that came about late this offseason and I couldn't be any more excited about getting behind the wheel of a 360 sprint car," he said. "This is a big step forward in my racing career and I'm excited to see what we can do."

Amantea isn't getting too far ahead of himself as his focus is on the weekend ahead.

"I'm just amped up to get behind the wheel and get this season underway," he said. "We've got an ambitious schedule ahead this year, but I'm looking forward to kicking it off in Trenton with a bang."
