AMRA Announces Tech Meeting
Sanction to Implement Strict 2011 Standards

All AMRA Track Promoters and Track Technical Inspectors Invited to Attend

MT. ALTO, WV- The American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) has announced that it will hold its annual Technical Inspector's meeting and training session Saturday, March 5 at the race shop of AMRA competitor Robbie Evans near Mineral Wells, West Virginia. Time for the event will be 1 to 4 p.m.
Directions to the Tech Inspector's meeting will be provided on the AMRA website at << www.amramodified.com >> and will also be listed at the conclusion of this release. The AMRA modifieds must run Hoosier Tires, while the AMRA Late Models currently have an open tire rule.
The event will be held to more consistently enforce existing rules and clarify new areas of concern to preserve the fidelity of race cars and maintain a level "playing field" for all. The event will be restricted to all AMRA promoters and their technical inspectors. Tracks are welcome to send more than one technical inspector.
The organization is taking measures to have roving inspectors to help local tracks with tech inspections. Plans tentatively call for "spot checks" at member tracks on an "unannouced basis". Also, spot checks to recertify cars after racing events will be held in 2011. Traditionally, cars are inspected prior to AMRA events.
The organization also would like to clarify concerns concerning bowed or arched roofs. "Roofs must be flat and in accordance to the rule book," noted AMRA President Larry Keefer. "Additionally, we have listened to the drivers and clarified the dimensions of the sail panels. They will be teched to the dimensions stated in the rule book. One of the standards the AMRA was built on "was to keep the cars as equal as possible". To do that we have to run under one set of rules and enforce the rules as they are stated."
The AMRA also noted that Crate Engines must have a legal seal, as authorized by GM. New crate engines wishing to get the weight break must have the GMPP seal only. "No counterfeit bolts, nor counterfeit seals will be tolerated."
"As crate engines become more popular and racers depend on certified builders, the AMRA wishes to work with local engine builders to gain certification. Certified builders will have each crate motor logged into a GM certified data base where all sanctions can verify that the engine is indeed certified," stated Director of Race Operations Scott Wolfe. "Likewise, legal seals must be obtained. As the idea of a crate engine becomes more popular, we as an organization must be prepared to police this area more completely to maintain the integrity of the program."
"Ultimately we want to save the racer money, and we want to maintain and build upon the point fund and contingency program that we have. Not many organizations have survived five years, let alone the 17 years that the AMRA has delved out over $600,000 in prize money."
"Helping the racer is the bottom line. If the racer can have a better race program because of our point fund, then our race tracks can have more quality cars for a longer duration of time--hopefully many, many years. In turn everyone wins."
Presenting awards in excess of $60,000 in prize money and $10,800 in contingencies, the AMRA crowned its 2010 champions at its 17th annual banquet at Cedar Lakes Conference Center last fall. Kenny Johnson, Mineral Wells, WV was the National Champ while Matt Holcomb, Crooksville, Ohio, was crowned as the Modified Road Warrior Challenge Tour champion. Crowned as the AMRA Late Model Division champion was Chris Garnes, Evans, WV. Since 1993 over half a million dollars has been awarded in prizes and point’s contingencies.
