Natural Bridge Preps for AMRA Innaugural Run (May 14)
AMRA opener May 14/ Tune Up for Federated Auto Weekend June 11
NATURAL BRIDGE, VIRGINIA-Big things are happening in Virginia dirt track modified racing! The start of a great marriage between the American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) and Natural Bridge Speedway begins this weekend with the Saturday, May 14 AMRA Opener.
The excitement is building for this weekend's AMRA Modified weekly opener at Natural Bridge Speedway in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley this Saturday night. Promoters Larry and Karey Ramsey are ready to go, and have the beautiful facility well-groomed for this historic event. The Ramsey's and crew are hard at work to have their race track and facility in top notch shape for the season opener for the AMRA Modifieds.
Local modified heros Brett Hamilton and Gary Connor are expected to be there as well as several of the AMRA mod racers from the southern WV contingent. Already, Beckley Motorsports Park has teamed with NBS for the AMRA Superweekend June 10-11, a show that features Sprint Cup star Kenny Schrader and a host of other notables competing for the hefty AMRA Road Warrior Challenge purse. Saturday's race will give driver's a chance to tune their cars in an effort to unseat Schrader as the top dog in this Federated Auto Challenge event.
The relative close proximity of the two tracks (Beckley, WV and Natural Bridge) will give AMRA drivers and local favorites a chance to compete for a high-dollar purse and a chance to compete against one of the nation's most versatile drivers. The same holds true for regular racing when it is anticipated that drivers will step up to the challenge for regular weekly shows.
Says Director of Racing Operations for AMRA, Scott Wolfe, "This weekend marks a big weekend in the scope of the AMRA in Southern West Virginia and Virginia. It looks to be a great deal for our drivers, our fans, and our tracks. We know of several new cars being built in the Beckely, Princeton, Natural Bridge area mainly because they now have multiple tracks to race at. This in turn is great for modified racing and racing in general."
In relation to the AMRA Superweekend June 10-11, Wolfe added, "This too is a big deal for both the AMRA and our two sanctioning speedways. To have Federated Auto come aboard is a major boost to what the AMRA and our speedways are trying to do for our racers. Having Ken Schrader join the mix is an added incentive, both for our drivers and the fans."
Many other top name drivers are expected to turn out for this weekend's event. Additionally, many other AMRA tracks will see their season opener's this weekend--season opener's long delayed due to heavy rains in the heart of AMRA country.

AMRA TRACKS Try Again!
Many Look For Season Openers this Weekend May 13-14
MT. ALTO, WV-Once again the big winner in AMRA sanctioned racing was Mother Nature. A better forecast indicates that all AMRA tracks may get to open the gates for this upcoming May 13-14 weekend.
By this time, tracks generally have a month's worth of racing in, however, heavy torrential rains have kept most gates closed over the past six weeks. On the plus side, anticipation is at an all-time high as fans are anxious to see all the new cars and stars on their favorite AMRA dirt track.
Opening last weekend was the I-77 Motorsports Park in Fairplain, WV where Harold Redman, Jr. claimed the AMRA Late Model event and Robert Garnes claimed the AMRA Modified event. Chris Garnes won the past AMRA LM event but this week I-77 will run double AMRA Modified Features May 14. At K-C Eddie Carrier, Jr. won the innugural AMRA Late Model Classic, while the AMRA modifieds don't debut there until this Saturday. Both I-77, Princeton, Natural Bridge, Ohio Valley and K-C will be open this weekend!
Elkins Raceway, Elkins, WV was slated to open Friday, May 6 with AMRA Modifieds on the race card and will try again with the mods and a late model special.
Both Ohio Valley Speedway in Lubeck, WV and Skyline Speedway are to open this week with Ohio Valley starting on Saturday, May 14 and Skyline on Friday, May 13. Beckley Motorsports Park will open Friday May 13.
O'Brion Oval Speedway at Duck, WV will practice 5-8 p.m. May 14 and open on May 28 when the points' season begins. Practice is scheduled for the revamped Thunder Mountain Speedway, formerly Hatfield and McCoy Speedway at Hanover, WV May 7 at 5:00 pm. The season opens May 14 at the newly sanctioned AMRA speed plant. The track phone is 304-664-5080.
