ASCS Gulf South Ready for Texas Double

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 14, 2007) – The American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region fires back into action with a pair of events in south Texas on Friday and Saturday night this weekend.



On Friday night, the series takes to the high-banked, ¼-mile Motorama Speedway gumbo clay oval in Beaumont, TX. Then on Saturday night, it's on to the ¼-mile, semi-banked Houston Raceway Park dirt oval in Baytown.



The ASCS Gulf South Region officially kicked off the 2007 season at Motorama Speedway on April 6, with Jason Johnson besting a field of 33 entries. Two other scheduled events, including one at Houston Raceway Park, have been washed out.



Defending ASCS Gulf South Region champion Gary Watson, who scored his lone win of 2007 at Motorama, leads a strong contingent of entries into the weekend including Johnny Miller, Skip Wilson, Eric Baldaccini, Brad Best, Chris Sweeney, Brandon Berryman and Greg Rilat among others.



Friday's action at Motorama Speedway goes green at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday's card at Houston Raceway Park set to fire off at 7:00 p.m.

Houston Raceway Park is located east of Houston on I-10 to Exit 798, then three miles south on State Road 146, then 0.8 miles southeast on FM 1405, then 1.5 miles northeast on FM 565. For more information, contact the track at 281-383-7223.



The 2007 slate for the ASCS Gulf South Region consists of 24 events at ten different tracks throughout Louisiana and Texas as well a single event in Mississippi.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
