SALUTE TO SIX MODIFIED SERIES

LOCUST GROVE AR. Forty-Four Modifieds attempted to qualify for the fifth and final Salute to Six event for the 2005 Season. Chris Moore of Nesbitt, Mississippi notched the pole position for Saturday’s feature, winning the 20 Lap qualifying event on Friday, during the first night of qualifying.
Donnie Barnhart of North Little Rock, Arkansas topped the second night of qualifying, grabbing the outside pole position.
Barnhart grabbed the lead from Moore as the green flag unfurled to begin the 60 Lap Salute to Six Main Event. Jeff Taylor moved by Moore for second in turn two on the second lap. Both Bill Frye and Michael Murphree shot past Moore on lap three, and Jared Landers moved Moore out of the top five on lap five.
Wendell Wallace came from his fifth row inside starting postion to fifth by lap eight. Michael Murphree raced by Bill Frye to third on lap 10, then raced side by side with Jeff Taylor on lap 12. Murphree grabbed the second spot coming out of turn four, then drove past Barnhart for the lead in the same spot on the next cirucit.
Bill Frye moved past Jeff Taylor for third on lap 15. Murphree was 10 car lengths ahead of the field by lap 17, and was 15 car lengths out front by lap 20. Frye improved to second, past Barnhart on lap 21. Wendell Wallace moved to fourth, past Jeff Taylor in turn twon on lap 22. Murphree was starting to see traffic at that point in the race.
Jared Landers took the fifth spot from Taylor on lap 24. Wallace moved by Barnhart into third on the backstretch on lap 25. Landers drove by Barnhart for fourth in turn four on lap 26.
The only caution of the race came out on lap 27 for debris on the backstretch. Peyton Taylor took the fifth spot on the restart. Wallace and Frye raced side by side for third on lap 29, then Wallace took the spot in turn two on lap 30. Wallace wasted little time pulling even with Murphree for the lead on lap 31. Jared Landers took third from Frye on lap 33.
Wallace drove past Murphree for the lead in turn four on lap 34, and had bolted out to a five car length advantage by lap 35. Bill Frye was off the track, and headed to the pits on lap 38, moving Jack Sullivan into the top five.
Wendell Wallace was seeing lapped traffic on lap 44. The top three cars were within just a few car lengths of each other working the slower cars. Wallace did pull back out to a ten car length advantage by lap 50, but that lead evaporated again as he worked the traffic.
Murphree was able to half that lead by lap 55, and was back within a couple of carlenghts as the white flag flew, but was unable to overcome Wallace.
Wendell Wallace came home with the $6,000 win over Michael Murphree, Jared Landers, Peyton Taylor, and Jack Sullivan who made up the top five. Richie Tosh, Jeremy Payne, Donnie Barnhart, Jeff Taylor, and Wayne Brooks who rounded out the top ten.
Jeremy Payne took the overall Salute to Six points championship over Jeff Taylor, Jared Landers, Wayne Brooks, and Michael Murphree.
On Friday, Jerry Waugh picked up the win in the E-Mod class ahead of Steven Tucker, Jody Jackson, Chad Martin, and Johnny Branscum. Jesse Brooks picked up the Front Wheel Drive class win topping Ronnie Jones, Terry Brooks, Skip Lane, and Marlin Cooper. Jesse Brooks went for the clean sweep, capturing Saturday’s Front Wheel Drive feature ahead of Skip Lane, Ronnie Jones, Chris Anderson, Marlin Cooper
