Lonnie Wheatley, KNOXVILLE, Iowa (September 20, 2019) – To say that Friday was a banner night for the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports duo of Aaron Reutzel and Josh Baughman would be an understatement.
For the second time in less than a month, both racers found their way to victory lane in signature events.
In central Pennsylvania, Aaron Reutzel wired the field in the Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial for his 14th All Star Circuit of Champions score of the year and 16th overall.
Meanwhile, in Wheatland, MO, Josh Baughman took care of a field of 70 entries to win the second night of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour preliminary competition at Lucas Oil Speedway’s “Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial” to earn the pole starting position for Saturday’s event finale.
“Hats off to this crew. This was one hell of a team effort,” an elated Aaron Reutzel said in victory lane, driver of the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports/Folkens Brothers Trucking/Fischer Body Shop/No. 87 sprint car. “Twenty second laps around this place is really hard. We’ve been working at trying to get better in the slick. Tonight, we basically opened our Port Royal notebook and put that in our car. It was like magic again.”
The triumph moves Reutzel closer to a second consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions title with his lead now standing at 98 points with just three nights of series competition remaining.
In Missouri, Baughman explained that, “We’ve been close here and just hadn’t been able to get it done, so this is pretty cool. We have Fischer Body Shop here and this is their backyard, so it’s really good to win for them and everybody back home. Aaron won tonight too at Williams Grove, so this is the second time we’ve both won on the same night. I feel like that says a lot about our entire team.”
The duo both reached victory lane on August 30 as well when Baughman won at Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex and Reutzel reached victory lane at Ohio’s Attica Raceway Park.
Both drivers have their eyes set on more on Saturday night, as Reutzel tries for a $20,000 winner’s share in “The Dirt Classic” at Abbottstown, Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Speedway and Baughman goes from the pole in the $10,000-to-win Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway.
