The rock stars of the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance made their return to the epic clay gem palace that is Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA for their Preliminary Friday portion of the 15th Annual edition of “Pro Late Model Racing’s Richest Weekend” with a total $80,000+ purse for the taking during the 2018 Fastrak Racing Series World Championship presented by James River Equipment . The $5000 to win World Challenge would be held at Virginia Motor Speedway for its final time, #21 Benji Hicks from Mt. Airy, NC would claim the BIGGEST win so far in his career with the $5000 World Challenge payday and celebrated giving all praise to God first, something a lot of sports are lacking today. The special wrap job for the event was in pink from Randy's Custom Lettering for the Hicks’ Mother who is a breast cancer survivor as many cars dawn the pink color for support of breast cancer awareness month in October. In addition, the colors go back to the racing days of “The Gambler” Tony Hicks final season in the #21 machine.

Hicks however would start the 40 lap feature on the outside of the front row as the #75 Brett Hamm would bring the field to the green. The race would start off with a handful of laps being complete before the four and five wide action would pick up all throughout the field, the event would have the first yellow flag on lap 9 and the race would sustain at total of 7 cautions flags total. Hick’s would hold off charges throughout the race by Hamm, #30 Tyler Bare (USA 100 $20,000 ULTIMATE June winner), #17 Logan Roberson and #55 Matt Long all snapping at his heels or trying to catch the rear spoiler of his Longhorn chassis as it was point blank in the “wind”. One restart after THE BIG ONE with a seven-car pileup would cause the 20+ lap green flag stretch run of the race where Hamm would slip off turn two while negotiating around back marker cars to have the 2nd position change with young #30 Bare in his Rocket to capitalize. The yellow would come out for the last time after #0 Troy Frazier would make contact with leader Hicks and Hamm while furiously trying to stay on the lead lap.

One more restart attempt was made for Bare to try to close in to catch Hicks but it just wouldn’t happen as the checkers would fall over the pink & black retro colors of his Father “The Gambler” Tony Hick’s scheme from his last season again racing. It was also Hick’s 3rd win on the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance, 6th overall FASTRAK touring win and the biggest win in his pro late Model career to date. The special moment before post-race victory interviews was the whole crew kneeling down on the driver side of the cockpit #21 and Tony Hicks car owner, crew chief and most of all Father to Benji Hicks Racing leading them in a word of inspiration and prayer, you could hear them proudly testify before the post-race formalities’, “Glory goes to God, Amen”.
