Benton, Mo; The Benton and Farmington Sprint drivers are preparing for this Saturday's Benton/Farmington Sprint Showdown at the Auto Tire and Parts NAPA Racepark. This is the first time both rival tracks have came together for an event such as this. Last week a $500.00 bounty which was placed on ATPR defending 2002 Sprint Champion Robbie Standridge of Springfield, Illinois. Standridge this year at ATPR has won five straight main events in a row in his Reddick Motorsport Sprinter. Farmington driver Timmy Montgomery of Fredericktown, Missouri is coming into the Benton/Farmington Sprint Classic as one of the hottest drivers around just coming off a huge All Star of Champion feature win at Farmington on July 26th. "Timmy is hot right now, and I bet the money comes back to Farmington Saturday". Promoter Larry Minkel of Farmington Raceway said.
Promoter Jerry Wolsey of the Auto Tire and Parts NAPA Racepark does not agree with Minkel's statement. "I'm going with my Sprint ace Robbie Standridge, he is one tough driver that can go the distance and can be on your back door step before you know it", Wolsey said.
Several other contenders from both tracks will be on hand as well such as, Tommy Worley Jr who runs very well at Benton from time to time throughout the season and ATPR Jason Evans, Alex Shanks, Shawn King, and Todd Rowland. The field will be made up of some of the finest Sprint car drivers in the region and should bring a lot of excitement for the fans. The driver that wins the showdown Saturday night will pocket $1,600.00 for their efforts along with a very nice Benton/Farmington Sprint Showdown Championship trophy. Both Promoters and Drivers from the Benton and Farmington facilities are ready for this first time ever classic. Pit Gates open at 4:00 P.M.; Grandstand at 5:00 P.M. with racing getting underway at 7:00 P.M.
