Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 18, 2014) - Big Game Motorsports driver Craig Dollansky capped last weekend with an impressive top 10 during the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series lone visit to Knoxville Raceway prior to this summer's Knoxville Nationals.
Although Dollansky would have preferred to have the Big Game Treestands team competing for the victory on Saturday, the 10[sup]th[/sup]-place finish marked a successful result after Dollansky got upside down on the opening lap of his heat race.
"We didn't get qualified very well, which has been a struggle this year," he said. "Unfortunately it was driver error in the heat race that cost us and put us behind."
After qualifying 20[sup]th[/sup] quickest, Dollansky started his heat race on the inside of the third row.
"I went into my heat race wanting to win to get ourselves in the dash," he said. "Unfortunately I crashed the car."
The Big Game Treestands team fixed the damage prior to the Last Chance Showdown, which Dollansky started on the outside of the third row. Despite a broken nose wing, Dollansky rallied for a third-place result to earn a transfer into the main event.
"The top of the track is my favorite part of the track," he said. "We were able to pick some cars off throughout the main event. The track conditions were changing. I felt like we found a certain part of the track where the rubber was developing. At the same time I was getting as tight as I was the whole race."
After starting the feature on the outside of the ninth row, Dollansky powered to the 10[sup]th[/sup]-place finish, which was the Big Game Treestands team's 10[sup]th[/sup] top 10 of the season.
"We were able to roll up in there and get a top 10 to salvage the night," he said. "We're making progress with this car each week."
The weekend opened on Friday at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., for the Big Game Shootout Brought to you by Eyecon Cameras and Big Game Treestands.
Dollansky qualified 22[sup]nd[/sup] quickest and he maneuvered from eighth to sixth place in his heat race to lock into the World of Outlaws main event.
"We were not very good at qualifying and we had some mechanical issues that we found," he said. "We put ourselves in a bad spot. Having to start back there (in the main event) and with the way the track was, it was difficult to make progress."
Dollansky advanced from 21[sup]st[/sup] to 17[sup]th[/sup] in the main event, which earned him the Hard Charger Award.
The Big Game Treestands team will compete this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
