Big Weekend Ahead at CSP!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (October 29, 2012) – With the initial pair of five consecutive weekends of wild racing action at Canyon Speedway Park successfully in the books, another blockbuster weekend awaits racing fans.

Three big days of racing follow an open practice session on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., beginning with the 24th Annual Desert Classic on Friday and Saturday and then concluding with the Stock Car Shootout on Sunday afternoon.

The Desert Classic offers up a smorgasbord of competition including IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Super Stocks, Modlite Nationals, Bombers and Hornets, with both nights of action going green at 7:00 p.m.

Then Sunday’s Desert Classic, which gets under way at 1:00 p.m., offers up a $1,000-to-win Pure Stock event, $500-to-win in both Super Stocks and Bombers with Modlite Nationals and Hornets on the docket as well.

Headlining the Desert Classic, the IMCA Modifieds were a regular fixture at CSP over the 2012 season with Cody Center ultimately taking the track championship by just 15 points over Jason Noll, with Guy Norton, Steve Stultz and Jim Collinsworth rounding out the top five in points.

The IMCA Modifieds offered up nine different feature winners in 13 point events, with Ricky Thornton, Jr., atop the win charts at three. D.J. Wood and Guy Norton both snared a pair of wins, with single scores posted by Tim Ward, Jason Noll, Mark Stewart, Robert Adams, Chris Olexicwiez and Jeff Stafford.

The weekend wraps up with a $1,000-to-win Pure Stock main event at the Stock Car Shootout. With a victory on September 28, Chris McCurdy, Jr., is atop the point charts by 20 markers over Joe Vlasity, with Steve Bitting, Ty Weidner and Marlowe Wrightsman rounding out the top five.

With eight drivers cracking victory lane in 16 Pure Stock events, Weidner leads the way on the win charts with six triumphs including the most recent pair of events. Anthony Madrid has reached victory lane three times and Ricky Thornton, Jr., has posted a pair of wins, with single victories claimed by Matt Martinez, Brandon Parker, Larry Price, Aaron Hetrick and Chris McCurdy, Jr.

Tickets for the 24th Annual Desert Classic are $18 on both Friday and Saturday. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free.

Tickets to Sunday’s Stock Car Shootout are $15, with children ages 7-12 $6 and children 6 and under admitted free.

Three-day passes for the entire weekend are available for $45.
