Boyd wins feature, Adams takes over points lead at SFCR

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- (Aug. 15, 2003) Chris Boyd of Park Hills started from the pole in the Hobby Stock feature Saturday night at the St. Francois County Raceway and was able to hold off the challenge of Doug Savage at the end to win the 15-lap feature event. Randy Forster finished in third place with Matt Eaton fourth and Chuck Adams fifth. They were followed by Kevin Mosier, Greg Stumbaugh, Leonard Betsch, Jim Abshier and Gary Weekley.
Boyd won the first heat race with Charles Adams second and Jeremy Greenwalt third. Forster won the second heat with Chuck Adams second and Savage third.
With just a few weeks left in the points season, Chuck Adams is now the points leader with 646 points as he moved just ahead of Jeremy Greenwalt and Randy Forster (each with 644 points). Kasey Nations suffered a major blow to his chances of earning a track championship Saturday night when he was black flagged for aggressive driving, thus losing all points for the night. He remains in fourth place still with 592 points.
In the Modified class, Timmy Hill picked up the feature win with Billy Smith second, Mike Crader third, Kenny Kennedy fourth and Tony Palmer fifth. They were followed by Pete Koenig, Dan Zander, Lannie Blake, Tommy Worley Sr. and Mike Francis.
Crader won the first heat with Kennedy second and Worley third. Smith won the second heat with Koenig second and Palmer third. Hill won the third heat with Francis second and Zander third.
Kennedy leads the points race in the Modified class, but only slightly by six points over Smith (588 to 582) with Hill third (494) and Crader fourth (472).
In the Sprint Car class, Joey Montgomery of Fredericktown weaved through traffic and held off his older brother to pick up the feature win. Timmy Montgomery finished in second place with Tommy Worley Jr. third, Rod Crabdree was fourth with A.J. Bruns fifth. They were followed by Bryan Mathews, Jason Keith, Ted Adams, Keith Burch and Bob Thoman. Keith won the first heat race with Timmy Montgomery second and Mathews third. Worley won the second heat with Joey Montgomery second and Bruns third. Jason Hunt won the third heat with Crabdree second and Adams third. Keith won the dash with Joey Montgomery second and Timmy Montgomery third.
Timmy Montgomery is running away with the points championship with 690 points. His closest competitor is Joey Montgomery at 588 points and then Worley with 494.
In the 600cc Multi class, Junior Ferguson of Farmington was the feature winner as he held off Casey Barnhouse for the victory. Curt Henderson was third with Jeremy Boyer fourth and Tyler Thompson fifth. They were followed by Joey Boyd, Conner Thompson, Jimmy Bridgeman, Rodney Williams and Bryan Naeger.
Ferguson won the first heat with Henderson second and Bridgeman third. Barnhouse won the second heat with Tyler Thompson second and Boyd third.
Barnhouse leads the Multis in points with 664. Ferguson is in second place with 606 and Boyer has moved into third place with 478.
Racing action continues at the St. Francois County Raceway this Saturday night as the MARA Midgets will join the Sprints, Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and 600cc Multis. For more information phone (573) 756-1734.
