Inside Line Promotions - LEXINGTON, Tenn. (Aug. 25, 2013) - Tony Bruce Jr. put together another consistent weekend with a pair of top 10s in Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action.

"It wasn't too bad," he said. "We were pretty decent at Little Rock."

Bruce Jr. and the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour opened the weekend on Thursday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., by charging from fourth to second place during his heat race.

"Unfortunately it didn't give us enough passing points to get us in the redraw," he said. "Going from fourth to second usually does."

Bruce Jr. missed the feature redraw by only two positions and started the main event on the outside of the fifth row.

"The track is a little bit trickier than it used to be," he said. "The banking isn't as predominant as it used to be. It's pretty tricky and hard to get a hold of."

Bruce Jr. competed within the top 10 for the entire race before settling for a seventh-place finish in his final appearance at the quarter-mile oval before the $15,000-to-win Short Track Nationals Oct. 24-26.

"Any time you go to Little Rock you expect to win because of our success we've had there in the past," said Bruce Jr., a two-time Short Track Nationals champion. "Am I pleased with a seventh? No, not really. But we learned some things for when we go back to the Short Track Nationals."

The team hauled to Lexington 104 Speedway for Saturday's inaugural Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour visit to the track.

"It was a new track and there's something about Southeastern-style race tracks where the dirt is really red and sandy," he said. "It's a different type of racing and a different type of surface."

The team had to change engines before the heat race, which Bruce Jr. won after starting on the outside of the front row. That gave him enough points to advance to the feature redraw, where Bruce Jr. pulled the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

"We were a little bit too tight on the right rear and unfortunately unable to make any moves to get up from sixth," he said. "It was more about timing than anything; whether you caught the guy in the right spot if you had a good run."

Bruce Jr. placed sixth to earn his 28th top-10 finish of the season. He remains sixth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour standings - only seven points out of the top five.

Bruce Jr. is slated to compete at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., on Friday and Saturday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour before an ASCS Warrior Region event at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., on Sunday.
