Farmington , MO (July 14) -- Saturday evening at St Francois County Raceway two driver had the honor of winning twice in the same night. A J Bruns of Lincoln, IL won his first and second features of the season in his #44 Sprint Car. Chris Boyd, Park Hills , MO won twice in the same night and for the seventh time this season. This was in the Pure Street Division. Bobby Lynn from upstate Illinois , Jacksonville , laid claim to his first win of the season in the PowrI 600 Multi Division. Not to be left out. Modified Division saw Billy “The Kidd” Smith make his first visit to the winners circle of 2007.
A J Bruns had the night to remember as he picked up both wins in the Sprint Division. In the first event of the evening, Bruns made a power move on Steve Short, Farmington , MO and set sail for the win. Short had the car to beat. In Victory Lane , Bruns said that a slower car helped him with the pass for the lead and the win. With the slower car in one lane, Bruns in the other, this left Short with nowhere to go. Short did hang on for second place. Right behind them rounding out the top five. Joey Montgomery, Fredericktown , MO. , Robbie Standridge, Springfield , IL and Tim Montgomery, Fredericktown , MO. These last three drivers were coming hard toward the front, but ran a bit shy on laps.
Bruns also won the make-up event from June 30. If you were not here on that evening, just before intermission, all the track lights went out.
Some new driver were at the front in this one as Tom Dickerman, Cedar Hill, MO finished a strong second, Keith Burch, Farmington, MO makes it to third, SFCR Wall of Famer Bob Thoman, Higginsville, MO comes in fourth and fifth went to Tim Montgomery, Fredericktown, MO.
Chris Boyd, Park Hills , MO had little trouble in winning both of features in the Pure Street Division. For the Regular show Chris held the field at bay. Bill Skaggs, Bismarck , MO had his best run of the season finishing in the runner-up spot, Shane Blair, Mineral Point , MO had a great run to finish third, Brad Mashek, Farmington , MO finished fourth, and “Chargin” Charlie Savage, Annapolis , MO rounds out the top five.
Second show saw Boyd winning once again. This time he was chased by Shane Blair in his best performance to date for second. Eric Saraks, Fredericktown , MO also had his best run of the season, finished third. Brian Blair, Cadet, MO makes it to fourth and Mike Savage, Annapolis , MO takes fifth.
Modified Division had their special show of the season. Racing for a $1000 payday at the end of the night Billy Smith took it all. It was not as easy as one would expect. Jeremy Greenwalt, Potosi , MO grabbed the lead. Looking tough on the top side of the track. Greenwalt made every attempt to pull away from the field. He got a little higher than “normal” and Smith saw the opening and took advantage. Smith would have Greenwalt all over him as they raced the final laps exchanging positions at both ends of the track. Greenwalt made one last ditch effort coming out of the last turn and came up just shy for the win. Smith said in the winners circle “That race was fun.” Following the lead pair for top five honors are Points Leader Brent Thompson, Park Hills , MO in third, Fourth went to David Shepard, DeSoto , MO , and Matt Eaton, Park Hills , MO in fifth.
Our POWRi Multi division saw a new winner as Bobby Lynn of Jacksonville , IL takes the honors. Lynn has bee here on a couple of occasions and seemed to always have bad luck. Saturday Night it was his show to win, and he did. He told the crowd during the interview that the race was for them. Without you the fans we wouldn’t be here.
Racing will continue next Saturday evening with a regular program of Winged Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Pure Streets and POWRi 600 Multis. Also on the card will be the make-up event for the Modified and the POWRi 600 Multis. Gate open at 4:00. Admission is Grandstand Adult $10 with childred under 12 FREE. Pit Passes are $25.
