It was the proverbial up and down season for Ryan Bunton and his family owned machine in 2007. After destroying three cars earlier in the season the team rebounded by winning the Herb Barlow O’Reilly Midwest All Star Series event at Jacksonville, Illinois.

Bunton has become a fan favorite at many local Midwest tracks including the mentioned Morgan County Speedway where he has taken home top honors previously in the 600 Micro Sprint class. Jacksonville was also the venue in which Ryan took home top Rookie honors in 2002 while wheeling his 410 powered sprinter.

“We seemed to have a run of bad luck in 2007 and then we got it all turned around late in the season. We were pleased with where we finished the season for the most part and are looking at building on the momentum for 2008,” the 23 year-old Morton, Illinois driver stated.

Following Bunton’s charge to the front at the Herb Barlow event, he went on into the next event and scored a 3rd place finish. The 3rd place doesn’t tell the whole story, however. Bunton’s podium finish night began by being involved in a first lap mishap in the feature and being relegated to the tail of the field at the Tom Knowles Memorial race at Canton, Illinois then charging back to the front of the field.

“We are looking forward to this season with a lot of hope. Our goals this year are to continue to qualify well, stay in position to win, and stay out of as much trouble as possible,” Bunton notes. “That sounds easier than it really is, any driver will tell you that.”

In addition to running the full O’Reilly Midwest All Star Series in 2008, the team will be packing up their Gaerte powered Maxim for a few extra open shows on the schedule. Bunton’s team mainly is comprised of family members and helps run the family owned business, Morton Collision Repair, Inc.

The Bunton owned #6R Maxim will be supported in 2008 by, Morton Collision Repair, Inc., Washington Collision, Keystone Automotive Group, and Sam Leman Autogroup. Bunton displays his team proudly at www.buntonmotorsports.com.

“The best thing about the way we race is that it is a family thing for us. My dad, Scott, is my crew chief and the rest of my team is also family, including, my mom Suzann, and my wife Christy. Scott and Steve Robinson have also been a great help for our team.”

In regards to the outlook of the schedule, Bunton promotes, “There are going to be a lot of tough races, but that is going to be for a lot of other guys as well. There is a good balance of distances for us to pull to, but it is a lot better racing than running a weekly show.”
