Mark Burgtorf laid claim to his ninth IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series win at Quincy Raceways on Friday, September 3. Burgtorf started outside the front row of the 40 lap main event and jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and held off Joey Gower, then Charlie McKenna and then Ray Guss Jr. to take his twenty sixth Deery Brothers main event win, second only to Jeff Aikey who has 54. Guss gave a valiant chase to Burgtorf and had a shot at taking the lead away on two separate occasions but Burgtorf maintained his position on both times to take the $3000 payday. Guss settled for second, followed by Denny Woodworth in third, Rob Toland in fourth and Mark Preston in fifth. Jeff Aikey, Joey Gower, Terry Neal and Jay Johnson scored the checkered flags in the heat races with Andy Eckrich and Billy Genenbacher taking the wins in the B-Mains.
The Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event was a wild and crazy twenty five laps as the leaders just could not seem to keep from making contact with each other and other cars, sending them to the back when the caution flags flew. The final incident saw Justin Reed and Steven DeLonjay get tangled up in turn two going for the white flag with a lapped car. Both Reed and DeLonjay were sent to the rear giving over the lead to James Leffew. Leffew held on when the green reappeared to gather in his first ever Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event win. David Wietholder scored second, followed by Tony Dunker in third, Milo Veloz in fourth and Shawn Deering in fifth. Deering and Dunker were the heat race winners with Michael Long taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
Jason Cook took his first every feature event win at Quincy Raceways in the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car main event. Cook took the lead at the drop of the green flag and held Abe Huls at bay for all twenty laps. Huls settled for second followed by Aaron Brocksieck in third, Jerry Jansen in fourth and David Wietholder in fifth. Cook and Wietholder were the heat race winners.
Bobby Anders tried everything in the book to get past leader Travis Booher but found the way to the lead on the second corner of the final lap as Anders powered his way to the bottom and then pulled in front of Booher at the top of the second corner. Booher settled for second with Nathan Hayes in third, Adam Scott in fourth and Jim Powell in fifth. Powell and Booher were the heat race winners.
The second big race night of Labor Day weekend is on tap for Sunday, September 5 with the King of the Hill Front Row Challenge on tap with the Advance Trading River City Rumble for the UMP Modifieds and the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash Finale for IMCA Late Models on tap for the evenings racing activities.
