CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series held its inaugural event on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS with a 38-car field and Chris Wall of Holden, LA picked up the win in the 40-lap main event. Anthony Burroughs of Muscle Shoals, AL was the first member driver in the third spot, and he leads the point standings.
The NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series co-sanctioned the event with the Promoters Racing Organization (PRO), and NeSmith SDCS members earned points at the race. The 2010 NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series Champion will win $10,000 based on their best ten finishes. Burroughs has 94 points, and David Brezeale of Four Corners, MS is second in the standings with 92 points.
Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is third in the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series standings with 86 points. The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee charged from the 20th starting spot to finish seventh in the Columbus, MS using the GM Performance CT525 Spec Engine purchased from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA.
If a driver using a CT525 engine purchased from NeSmith Chevrolet in 75 percent of the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series events in 2010 wins the championship, NeSmith Chevrolet will pay an extra $5,000 to make the title worth $15,000.
Neil Baggett of Shannon, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series standings with 84 points, and Kyle Beard of Truman, AR is fifth with 82 points. The sixth through tenth spots respectively are William Thomas of Phenix City, AL with 80 points, Dean Carpenter of Coldwater, MS with 78 points, Rick Rickman of Columbus, MS with 76 points, Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of Northport, AL with 66 points, and Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA with 60 points.
The next event for drivers to earn NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series points will be this Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL with a 50-lap $2,500-to-win main event that will be co-sanctioned with PRO.
Drivers still have an opportunity to purchase an annual series membership to be eligible for the point fund based on their best ten finishes that pays $10,000-to-win and pays back ten spots. The NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series will sanction super late model races in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee in 2010.
THREE NeSMITH SUPER DIRT CAR SERIES EVENTS ADDED TO THE 2010 SCHEDULE:
Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL and 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA have signed on for NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series events in 2010. Penton Raceway will host the series on June 11 with a 40-lap $2,000-to-win event, and the series will then travel to Talladega Short Track on June 12 for a 50-lap $2,500-to-win event.
441 Speedway will host the NeSmith Super Dirt Cr Series on October 2 with a 50-lap $2,500-to-win main event. NeSmith Super Dirt Series officials are still booking 2010 races and will be making more schedule announcements in the coming days.
