Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (October 17, 2019) – Rebounding from a Saturday night mishap at Southern Illinois Raceway, 16-year-old Cannon McIntosh showed his resiliency by rallying through Sunday night’s POWRi Midget field at Belle-Clair Speedway to earn Hard Charger honors aboard the Dave Mac Motorsports Toyota-TRD Spike No. 08 Midget.

Another pair of events await the young shoe this week with Thursday’s USAC Midget “Jason Leffler Memorial” at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, IL, and then another round of Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget League competition at Little Rock, Arkansas’ I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.

After racing from sixth to second in Saturday night’s heat race at Marion’s Southern Illinois Speedway, McIntosh gridded the feature field third and held the position with the lead duo within sight before running afoul of a lapped car.

“He was running the middle of the track and I was up top, then he turned right at the last second getting into the turn,” McIntosh recalls. “I launched off his right rear tire and into the fence, it pretty much wiped that car out.”

Breaking out the backup for Sunday’s action at Belle-Claire Speedway, McIntosh and team were put to the test.

“The feature was about the only thing that went right for us all night,” McIntosh comments.

The team battled through a variety of issues all evening and utilized a provisional to start the main event after the car wouldn’t fire for “B” Main action.

Problem solved though and McIntosh made the most of it, slicing through the field from the 23rd starting position to capture a fourth-place finish by the time the checkered flag flew.

“We just needed a late yellow and I think we had the win, the car was working incredibly well,” McIntosh explains.

With repairs made from the weekend, McIntosh and crew look for more success in USAC and POWRi Midget action this weekend.

Along with Toyota-TRD, other marketing partners making the 2019 Cannon McIntosh slate of events possible includes Sanders and Associates, Car and Fleet, Mobil 1, Speedway Engine Development, Best Graphics, Fieldhouse Gear, Precision Inspection, Panels by Smoke, Walker Performance, Sanders Wheels, American Discount Brake and Muffler, D&N Fabrication, Darling Ingredients, PJ’s and Hinds Family.

Up Next: USAC National Midgets “Jason Leffler Memorial” at Wayne County Speedway (Wayne City, IL) on Thursday and POWRi National Midgets at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, AR) on Saturday.
