OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 29) – After back-to-back weeks of rain-soaked disappointment, the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series resumed Wednesday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, for Kids Night presented by Pro-Line Buildings of New Sharon with USRA RHS Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks back in action on the half-mile clay oval.

In USRA Hobby Stock competition, Craig Brown of Eldon used the pole position to garner his first main event win of the season, holding off Oskaloosa racers Kris Walker and points leader Steve Allen who now holds a slim six-point advantage over Walker.

Last week’s winner, Nick Ulin of Agency, finished fourth and moved to third in the points standings while Justin Hook of Oskaloosa came home in fifth.

As winner of the most recent race on June 8, Cayden Carter started tenth in the USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod feature for the second time in a row, but the teenager from Oskaloosa found his way to the front again to chalk up his third straight win at the Mahaska County Monster.

Andrew Schroeder of Keswick led for most of the race, but had to settle for the runner-up finish at the checkered flag with Oskaloosa’s Carter VanDenBerg taking third while 18th-starting Bill Gibson of Knoxville edged A.J. Johnson of New Sharon for fourth.

Gibson continues to sit atop the B-Mod points standings, but by just a single point over VanDenBerg while Carter is a mere five markers behind Gibson in third.

As it has come to be expected, the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car main event was a barnburner from start to finish with three- and four-wide racing throughout the field.

In the end, Kyle Harwood of Oskaloosa nabbed his first feature win at Osky in the full-fendered fast machines as he held off defending track champion Nathan Wood of Keswick.

Rookie driver and track promoter Todd Staley of Webster City matched his career-best performance finishing third ahead of Stock Car class points leader Shane Weller of Agency and Mike Van Genderen of Newton.

The high-powered USRA RHS Modifieds capped off the action Wednesday night with Colt Mather of Webster winning his third main event in as many starts this season at the Southern Iowa Speedway.

With Mather taking charge from the outside of the front row, polesitter and points leader Scott Dickey of Packwood had to settle for a second-place paycheck with Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon third, Ryan Schaffer of Corning fourth and Oskaloosa’s Ron Ver Beek in fifth.

American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series action will return next Wednesday, July 6, with a special program on tap for the USRA RHS Modifieds, with USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks also on the card.

For next Wednesday, the Modifieds will run under the USRA’s “alternative” rules for the class. Except for drivers utilizing the CT525 crate engine, only flat tappet 23-degree steel-headed engines are permitted (no raised runner heads and no rollers) and spoilers will not be allowed.

With 21 or more Modifieds on hand, the winner will walk away with $1,000. Complete weekly payouts for the Southern Iowa Speedway can be viewed at www.rlpromotions.com/oskaloosa/payouts.asp.
