Brad Smith takes $1,500 Payday during Annual B-Modified Special, Donnie Dannar Wins Street Stock Main and Rick Beebe earns the pole for Saturday night at CMS!

(Warrensburg, MO) Central Missouri Speedway kicked off the Labor Day weekend last night in fine style with the track’s annual B-Modified special event, which paid a whopping $1,500 to Brad Smith as the winner of the race! The ‘Mighty’ Modifieds were also on hand competing in qualifying events for Saturday night’s $3,000-to-win, 40-lap feature event. The top twelve finishers from Friday night’s scramble event make up Saturday night starting positions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, and 23, the inside row. Rick Beebe claimed the pole by virtue of his win in the hotly contested scramble event. The street stocks were also on board during the night with promoter Earl Walls adding an extra $20 at the pay window for every driver taking the green flag in the 15-lap feature event; Donnie Dannar claimed the Street Stock win. There were a total of 25 b-modifieds, 23 Modifieds, and 10 Street Stocks on hand competing in twelve races, 58 cars were checked in for the night.

B-Modifieds headlined the night’s program and kicked things off with their heat races and then finished up the night with their 25-lap main event. Three competitive heat races were ran to sort out the main event lineup as Ethan Isaacs took his third win, Brad Smith won his tenth heat, and Dean Wille claimed his second heat win to conclude the heat races. Heat race finishes:
Heat 1: 66 Ethan Isaacs, 6 Lucas Isaacs, 5t Rusty Trimble, 94 Jacob Ebert, 03 Chris Brockway
Heat 2: 99 Brad Smith, 55 Bronson Combs, 14 Russ Wood, 18 Darin Claxton, 25 Scotty Martin
Heat 3: 67 Dean Wille, 11s Tyler Lewis, 25h Galen Hassler, 4 A.J. Tice, 38 Nic Bennett

Dean Wille earned the most passing points for the b-mods and started on the pole position for the big-money race with Ethan Isaacs to his outside. Wille stayed in command for the first seven laps with Smith pressuring the Warrensburg driver hard for the top spot. Behind the lead duo, both Isaacs Brothers and Rusty Trimble ran door-panel-to-door panel inside the top five. The caution flew on lap 8 when Tyler Lewis and Mark Evinger got together in turns one and two with both cars out for the night. As the green flag flew again, Wille maintained his lead with Smith still glued to his backside. At the halfway point, with Wille still in command, the caution flew again for debris on the track. Once the race resumed it did not take long for Smith to power into the lead on lap 13 of 25 with Wille back to second. A wild crash occurred on lap seventeen when A.J. Tice got sideways off turn four leaving Jacob Ebert with nowhere to go; Ebert’s car drove up and over Tice’s and ended up flipping on its side near the barrier tire on the inside of turn four. Flames began to creep out of the car as the track crew worked to extinguish the flames quickly as Ebert exited out of the car with a sore wrist and a little disappointed. After a wave to the crowd, Ebert walked away from the incident. When the race resumed, Smith led Wille, Martin, the Isaac Brothers and Claxton inside the top six. The race stayed under green-flag condition until the white flag lap; however, debris was spotted in turn two and the yellow flag flew one final time setting up a two-lap dash to the finish, Smith restarted the race and was able to sail away to the Waterloo Storage Products victory lane for the eleventh time this season, his twenty-second feature win at CMS over the years. Wille finished a strong second, with Martin third, Lucas Isaacs fourth, Ethan Isaacs fifth and Hassler rounding out the top six.

The always exciting street stocks were up next on the night’s program with a pair of heat races that were won by Joey Hotmer, Jr. for his first and Clayton Campbell with his third heat win. Heat race finishes:

For the street stock main event, Clayton Campbell led at the drop of the green flag. Campbell held strong through lap four until Herb Dannar spun off turn four bringing out the first yellow flag. Campbell held the lead until the next completed lap until Donnie Dannar took over the point putting Campbell back to second with Anthony Ward in third. Dannar, the new leader, brought the field around once again for the green flag until lap nine when his Dad, Herb, was involved in his second spin and was relegated to the pits because of his second yellow flag involvement. Jerry Schmidt also was involved in the second yellow flag but continued on to the finish. Donnie Dannar again powered to the lead on the restart with Campbell, Ziegler, Eickleberry and McMillin chasing him. By lap eleven, Donnie Dannar had a full straightaway lead as Campbell held onto second. With the white flag in the air Donnie Dannar was comfortably in the lead with Eickleberry taking second, Campbell third, McMillin fourth and Anthony Ward sixth. Unfortunately Campbell was DQ’d after a post-race technical inspection.

Modifieds were next to hit the speedway with three qualifying heat races for the drivers attempting to get in the big show on night to complete Saturday’s inside row starting spots. Heat race wins went to Terry Schultz of Sedalia with his second, Luke Feeback also with his second, and Shad Badder claiming his second win just as his car belched a huge plume of smoke and steam just as he crossed the finish line to finish up the heat races. Rick Beebe drew the pole position during the scramble event during the intermission re-draw. The b-main win was claimed by Nathan Mayes all the way up from Springdale, Arkansas. Beebe took the green flag at the start of the 20-lap scramble event with Higginsville driver Joey Lile to his outside. The track was tacky and extremely fast as the nail-biter race settled into a nice race rhythm with Beebe in command. Dean Wille’s modified night came to an end early as he was the first to leave the track with Nathan Mayes pulling off and out of the race by lap four. By lap five, Beebe led Shad Badder, Feeback, and Dustin Boney inside the top four as Richard Layne left the race on lap six. Johnny Bone, Jr. and Tyler Schmidt were the next cars to exit the race by lap 8 as the top four remained unchanged. On back through the field, Dustin Boney, Joey Lile, Jeff Cutshaw, Jason Thompson and a hard-charging Terry Schultz ran close inside the top eight. By lap eleven, Jamie Ragland’s night came to an end just as Terry Schultz powered into the top six with a big move off the high side of the track. By lap fourteen, Boney had moved to second spot with Badder now third and Cutshaw moving into the top four. As the laps continued to click off, Beebe maintained his lead with Boney putting tremendous pressure on Beebe by using the low side, but just when it looked like Boney would again find his way to the front, he exited the track on lap eighteen. This allowed Beebe to comfortably come away with the victory at the conclusion of the twenty laps over Badder in second, Cutshaw with an outstanding run to third, Thompson to fourth from his eighth starting position, Schultz finished fifth up from eleventh, while Feeback held on to sixth at the line.

Labor Day Weekend racing continues at CMS on Saturday night, headlined by the $3,000-to-win/$250-to-start 40-lap modified feature event. Twelve more cars will be added to the field after the night’s qualifying heats and scramble are finished. The twelve additional cars will join the twelve drivers who fought their way in during Friday night’s scramble (results below) to complete the starting line-up for the final modified special of the year. ULMA Late Models and Street Stocks will race for weekly track points Saturday night as they join the Modifieds for another exciting night of competition at Warrensburg’s own Central Missouri Speedway for night two of the Labor Day weekend.

Past winners of the annual Labor Day Weekend modified special include Dave Meyer (1998, 2000, 2004), Joe Walker (1999), Justin Boney (2001, 2007), Richard Layne (2002), Tom Charles (2003), Terry Schultz (2006), Dustin Boney (2008), and Aaron Marrant (2009). It’s anyone’s guess who will visit victory lane for this year’s race but one thing is guaranteed, if Dustin Boney wins Saturday night it will be a complete sweep of the big-money specials by the Kansas City driver this year and the first time-ever that any driver has swept all three specials in the same year! Will another new winner walk away with the big pay or will someone repeat?

Normal start times apply for Saturday night with pit gates opening at 4:30, admission gates swing open at 5, driver’s meeting starts at 6:30, hot laps begin at 7, and racing gets underway at 7:30. The track is located 3.5-miles north of Warrensburg, MO from the junction of Highways 50 and 13 in Warrensburg or from the Higginsville exit off of I-70, travel south on Highway 13 for twelve miles.
