Farmington , MO (September 23, 2007) Championship week at St Francois County Raceway took on a whole different meaning Saturday evening. With two division decided last week. Pure Street Champion, Chris Boyd, and POWRi 600 Multi Champion, Brandon Nixon, could enjoy racing in their class without pressure. The other two Divisions, Sprint and Modified, came down to the wire.

The Sprint Division came down to two drivers for the Championship. Joey Montgomery, Fredericktown , MO and Tommy Worley, Jr., Farmington , MO. The start of the night found Worley at the short end of the chase, but not out. However, Montgomery did what one should do as any leader. He won his Heat, the Dash and the A-Main. By doing this Worley could not gain ground and finished in the second position.

Both drivers are to be well commended on their fine seasons. There is still plenty left in 2007 to look forward to as in two week each will have their eyes on the Finale of the season. The Queen’s Royale will take to the banks of SFCR.

During the A-Main it looked like any normal Saturday night at Montgomery, Steve Short, Jason Hunt, and Worley would get away from the field. These drivers worked through traffic at will. With only one caution during the event, the drive for the win and the championship was stellar.

At the conclusion of the event, coming around for his victory circle interview. Everyone in the house assumed in turn four that donuts were in order to celebrate. However, when he jumped the burm, he found the tires instead. After he arrived he told the crowd that the attempt in turn four was to roll the car. There’s a new twist on a celebration.

Our Second Divisional war was taking place in the Modifieds. Billy Smith, Park Hils , MO. , and Brent Thompson also from Park Hills , MO had their work cut out for them to win the title. With a season high 40 cars in the pits, one could only imagine what could happen.

Five heats were contested during the night. Only the top 3 would transfer direct to the main. The remaining cars would have one more chance in one of the two consolation events. Thompson ran his heat first and finished third, he was in the main. Smith ran his heat in normal competitive style, but close racing cost him a cut tire and forced to run the consolation event. Laps were running out and Smith was on the outside looking in from the fourth spot. A late caution would group the field together. Smith made the pass for position and finished second.

Feature event still had the drama as the possibility of a tie for the Championship still existed. When the green dropped Kasey Nations, Mike Francis and Matt Eaton were the drivers to beat. This trio was placing laps on the board in a hurry. Eaton would eventually drop out of the competition. All eyes were still watching Thompson and Smith. Both were working through traffic knowing where they had to finish to claim the crown. Two cautions came out for the event, Mike Abney for a spin and Lou Driemeier for loss of power.
