CLARKSVILLE, TN – Childersburg Speedway in Childersburg, AL will reopen for the first time since 2000 this season with its Crate Late Model Division under the sanction of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series. A group led by Mike Heptinstall has purchased the 3/8-mile clay oval, and is busily preparing the facility for Friday night racing in 2006.

The Crate Late Models, in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series feature economical engines produced by GM Performance and sealed at factory. The competitors are not permitted to break the seals in an effort to gain a horsepower advantage through expensive modifications.

The steel-head “602” engine sells for $2,950, and the aluminum-head “604” engine sells for $4,950, with free delivery for either engine. These engines are race-ready right out of the crate from the factory, and are readily available at GM dealerships nationwide.

“We’ll be working with the Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, which is also sanctioned the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series,” Heptinstall said. “Crate Late Model Racing is the best thing to come along for weekly racing, and we went with the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series because we were impressed with their professionalism.”

Heptinstall, who also works as a technical inspector at Talladega Short Track, got to see the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series staff working first hand at the Ice Bowl on January 8.

“The StormPay.com staff was very professional and efficient, and they had a very competitive field of cars,” Heptinstall said. “We looked at other sanctioning bodies for our Crate Late Model Division. It was obvious to us that the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series was the best one out there putting forth an effort to keep the costs down, and one we wanted to be a part of.”

Childersburg Speedway competitors in the Late Model Crate Division will compete with other drivers nationwide for regional and national points and point fund money as a part of the 24-week StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series.

The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series season will begin on March 31 and member tracks will compete under the sanction for 24-weeks through October 1. Each driver’s top 16 finishes will count towards their regional point totals. The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series proposed point fund is $130,000 in cash and prizes.

“We’re delighted to add Childersburg Speedway to the growing list of StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series tracks for the 2006 season,” StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series President of Operations and Communications Roby Helm said. “Alabama has become a hot bed for Crate Late Model racing, and the combination of Childersburg Speedway on Friday night, and Talladega Short Track on Saturday night will give both fans and competitors some great racing action.”
