Kansas City, KS (October 3rd, 2009)-Oxford, Iowa's Chris Simpson worked his way past Terry Phillips in the closing laps to take the win on Night #2 of the O'Reilly MLRA Clyde Ellis Late Model Showdown at the Lakeside Speedway on Saturday night. Terry Phillips led much of the event but settled for second while Lebanon, Missouri's Brandon McCormick had an outstanding run to cross the line in third with Eric Turner in fourth. Al Purkey stretched his point lead a little bit more over Anderson as Purkey finished in fifth and Anderson rebounded from a flat tire to finish in ninth. Jeremy Payne crossed the line in third but was light at the scales resulting in a 24th place finish.

David Turner and Matt Johnson paced the field to the green flag from the front row but the caution flag flew after Craig Preble made contact with the turn 1 wall. Preble would return at the rear of the field as the green flag flew. David Turner led the opening lap in his Rocket chassis with Payne in second and Phillips in third followed by Chris Simpson and Dale McDowell.

John Anderson's string of bad luck continued as he slowed with a flat left rear tire on lap #2 to bring out the second caution of the night. Anderson also returned to the action at the rear of the field. On the restart, Payne reassumed the lead as the green flag laps clicked off. Simpson had now worked his way into second followed by Phillips, McDowell, and Lebanon, Missouri's Brandon McCormick. Mike Wiarda and Denny Woodworth got together in turn #4 bringing out the third caution of the night on lap 11. Both drivers went pitside on the hook.

Terry Phillips shot past Payne on the restart down the back stretch to take the lead with Payne holding onto second followed by Chris Simpson, Brandon McCormick and Dale McDowell. McDowell began to charge however as he worked into the second spot on Lap 14 with his sights set on Phillips. Andrew McKay slowed in Turn 2 bringing out the dreaded yellow flag once again. A torrid three way battle for the lead between Phillips, McDowell, and McCormick resulted in a flat tire for McDowell who was forced to pit to fresh Hoosier rubber. Phillips retained the top spot with McCormick in second and Jeremy Payne in third.

Chris Simpson lead lap #27 as he went three wide with Phillips and Payne but his lead was short lived as Payne moved right to the top of the speedway to regain the top spot as Phillips dropped back to the third spot but Simpson continued to fight on the bottom as he and Payne swapped the lead back and forth. Simpson seemed to make the bottom work as begain to put some distance on Payne with five laps to go. Chris Simpson held on to take the win.
