KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 5) – He was second to the checkers but Eric Dailey went home the win¬ner of Tuesday’s Harris Clash for IMCA Modifieds at Knoxville Raceway.
Dailey started 17th, followed race-long leader Michael Long across the stripe, then was promoted to first when Long came up light on the post-race scales and was disqualified.
The victory paid $2,500, including a $500 chassis manufacturer sponsor bonus, and put Dailey on the ballot for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.
Both Dailey and eventual runner-up Jordan Grabouski passed Ken Schrader late in the 30-lapper. Mike Van Genderen and Todd Shute rounded out the top five.
Long took the initial green flag from the third spot, was scored just ahead of pole starter Schrader on the first circuit and pulled away from the field following each restart during the caution-slowed contest.
He finished comfortably ahead of Dailey but was 30 pounds light on the scales.
Seventy-four drivers from eight states and Canada competed in the 20th annual event.
