(SULLIVAN, WISCONSIN) Dan Schlieper and his #s9 Rockstar Energy Drink team visited victory lane for the first time in 2010 on Saturday night, July 31 at the legendary Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland! Dan qualified well and later won his heat race in preliminary action to earn the pole position for the 50-lap Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series main event. The Sullivan, Wisconsin driver fell back to third early in the race, but got up on the wheel following a lap fourteen restart and eventually wrestled the top spot away from leader Don O'Neal on the sixteenth circuit. Dan then kept the stout field at bay throughout the remainder of the race to pocket the $10,000 payday ahead of Don O'Neal, Dan Stone, Scott Bloomquist, and John Blankenship!
Earlier in the week, the Dan Schlieper Racing team competed in a pair of $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series showdowns in the Empire State of New York. On Tuesday, Dan finished twenty-first after slapping the wall early in the feature at the Fonda Speedway in Fonda, New York. The driver known as the "Wisconsin Wildman" also netted a fourteenth place finish in the 50-lap A-Main on Thursday at the Utica Rome Speedway in Vernon, New York. "It feels really good to get that monkey off of our back and get into victory lane," quoted Schlieper earlier this week via telephone. "We have been close on a couple of different occasions this year, but the car was just perfect on Saturday at Hagerstown. I guess I went a little softer on tires than everybody did in the feature, but it was the right decision and they really fired well on that lap fourteen restart. Qualifying and heat race action for the two-day extravaganza will take place on Friday night, while the consolation races and 100-lap 'USA Nationals' will headline the weekend on Saturday evening.
