BURNSIDE, KY – Saturday night at the Lake Cumberland Speedway, David Webb of Nicholasville, KY notched his second straight win with the O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series. Webb led all 40 laps en route to the victory, which was his fourth straight at the Burnside, KY track.

Terry English and David Webb sat on the front row of the 40-lap O’Reilly Auto Parts A-Main with Webb quickly stealing the early race lead leaving English to do battle with Bryan Barber, Larry Gray, and Tim Tungate for second. As Webb slowly distanced himself from the fight for second, Chris Combs soon joined the battle after getting shuffled out of line on the first lap.

As Webb encountered lapped traffic on the eighth circuit, English closed the gap and began applying pressure to the race leader. One lap later, Webb and Anthony Ferguson made contact in turns one and two resulting in a caution for debris. After an aborted attempt to restart the race, action resumed on lap 9 with Webb leading English, Barber, Gray, and Tungate.

Webb darted back out front leaving English, Barber, Gray, Tungate, and Combs to battle for the bridesmaid honors. Combs soon jockeyed around Tungate and Gray to catapult into fourth as Justin Rattliff slipped by Tungate to nab sixth. Behind the side-by-side racing for second, Jeff Watson, Tyrel Todd, and Mike Jewell were wrestling for eighth as 19th-starting Michael Chilton quietly picked his way through the field.

Shortly after the halfway point, Webb began weaving his way through the back of the field. Not even the backmarkers could slow the torrid pace being set by the Nicholasville, KY native as Webb picked off one after another leaving the rest of the field to do battle for second.

With Webb in his own zip code out front, the race for second stayed hot as English, Barber, and Combs could have been covered with a blanket at any given time. The trio raced doorhandle-to-doorhandle with lapped traffic and each other to put on a phenomenal driving clinic that kept the fans’ attention as the remaining laps ticked away.

With no other cautions to slow him down, David Webb went on to win his second straight race with the O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts. Webb’s CJ Rayburn GTO has a Pro Power Racing Engine under the hood and carries sponsorship from ORS Auto Body, Aluminum Racing Products, JDB Contracting, and Anglers Outpost.

“After two somewhat unsuccessful years in a Late Model, it feels really good to be running this well,” Webb said after the win. “This car stayed in my trailer all week. I had to work in Louisville this past week and didn’t get a chance to work on it or do anything to it. So we just left it in the trailer all week, came here, unloaded it, and raced it.”

Benton, KY veteran Terry English held on for second in the AAA Fence Inc./Seay Motors/Rayburn Monte Carlo. Third spot went to Bryan Barber of Buffalo, KY driving the Revel Motorsports/PBM Performance/Rayburn GTO. Chris Combs, Isom, KY, took fourth in the Combs Bros. Racing/Combs Trucking/Swartz GTO. Rounding out the top five was the GPE Motorsports/Apollo Oil/Rayburn GTO of Lexington, KY’s Larry Gray. Finishing sixth was Justin Rattliff, seventh Tim Tungate, eighth Jeff Watson, ninth Tyrel Todd, and tenth Mike Jewell.

Of the 29 entries on hand for the show, Mike Jewell set fast time during Racing Optics Time Trials with a quick lap of 14.337. Mason Racin’ Heats were won by David Webb and Larry Gray while the Arizona Sport Shirts Heat went to Terry English. Aaron Hatton was the winner of the Design 500 B-Main.

The next race for the O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts is the rescheduled John Bradshaw Memorial paying $5000 to win on Friday, August 25th at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY.
