Returns to Action in March with USMTS

Woodward, Oklahoma (01/16/19) – From the first time that Dereck Ramirez unloaded his Ramirez Motorsports #4r Boom Test Well Services/ Hughes Race Car/Cornett Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified at the 13th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout he showed speed. Throughout the event he continued to build momentum and along the way scored his first win of 2019.

“We had a fast car right out of the box,” Ramirez said. “If not for some driver errors on my part, we would’ve probably had an even better week. However, I’m not going to complain about a win, a pair of third-place finishes and another Top-10 finish. Hopefully this is just the beginning of things to come for this year. I want to thank my mom and dad and sponsors for making all of this possible.”

Bringing the 2019 season to life, Dereck Ramirez invaded FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) on Saturday, January 5 for the opening round of the 13th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. With passing points determining the lineup for the opening night feature, Ramirez streaked to an 8-lap heat race win, locking his spot into the show. Reeling in a podium performance in the 25-lap feature, Dereck notched a third-place finish behind Casey Arneson and Darrell Nelson with Dustin Strand and Tyler Wolff completing the Top-5 finishers.

The festivities for Sunday, January 6 were postponed by Mother Nature to January 12.

Dereck Ramirez returned to FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway on Wednesday night for the second round of the Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. After posting a runner-up finish in his heat behind Joe Duvall, Ramirez ran into mechanical issues in the 25-lap feature that dropped him back to a 22nd-place outing.

When action resumed on Friday evening, Ramirez battled bad luck throughout the night before missing the transfer to the feature by one spot as his night came to an early end.

Returning on Saturday for the doubleheader, Dereck locked his spot into the early Saturday afternoon A-Main with the third-fastest time in his qualifying group. Rolling off third for the 15-lap affair, Ramirez outran polesitter Darrell Nelson to pick up his first win of the season and a $1,000 payday. Tyler Peterson, Nelson, Jacob Gallardo, and Alex Stanford rounded out the Top-5 finishers.

Later Saturday night, Ramirez followed up a seventh-place finish in his heat race with a 12-lap consolation victory, but Mother Nature eventually postponed the feature to Sunday. When action resumed on Sunday afternoon, he wheeled his way into the Top-10, passing 11 cars to finish 7th in the feature.

Wrapping up the 13th annual Wild West Shootout on Sunday evening, Dereck locked into the finale with a third-place finish in his heat. With $2,000 on the line, Ramirez advanced through the field to a third-place finish trailing Ricky Thornton Jr. and Rodney Sanders across the line with Dustin Strand and Darrell Nelson completing the Top 5.
