DOE RUN, MO--(May 18, 2007) Racers and fans alike breathed a sigh of relief as the 2007 race season kicked off this past Friday night after 4 consecutive rain outs, including the annual test and tune day.
In the Stock Kart class, Andrew Cash proved he will be a contender again this season, winning both his heat race and the feature event. Damien Atchley crossed the stripe in second place behind Cash in the first heat, Scottie Gretzmacher third. Jesse Wright won the second heat, Corey Wolfmeier second and Lee Stuppy third. Gretzmacher earned the runner up spot in the A-Main, Wright third, Garrett Burns fourth and Wolfmeier fifth.
CJ Wright won a hard fought battle with Ray Statler in the Mini Stock class feature event. At the flag, Statler had to settle for second, Brian McGee third, Tod Brinley fourth and Bob Wright fifth. Casey Barnhouse won the first heat, Ron Moser second and Wright third. Shannon Burch won the second heat, Statler second and McGee third.
Eric Edwards won the 600cc Multi class feature event. Mark Shirshekan finished second, Ryan Jones third, Jimmy Bridgeman fourth and Joe B. Miller fifth. Edwards won the first heat, Lynda Blanke second and Miller third. Brian Keen won the second heat, Shirshekan second and Jones third.
Joey Gilliam won the hornet division A-Main followed by Matt Greif, and Jeff Straughn. Greif carried the checkers after the heat race, George Smith second and Gilliam third.
A new treat for the fans this season is the 305 Winged Sprint Car division. Josh Worrell won the inaugural heat race and A-Main followed by Kermit Schrum. Keith Buckley and Gavin Galbraith were both unable to compete after encountering problems during the heat race.
The Vintage cars made their first trip to the raceway this season with 9 cars in attendance. Tim Eaves won the A-Main followed by Butch Graham, Randy Horton Jr., Dean Adams Jr., and John Wolfmeier. Graham won the first heat, Horton second and Wolfmeier third. Adams won the second heat, Eaves second and Tim Van Eck rounding out the top three.
