Hey Dirt Surfer,
I really enjoyed your ----Malden Thoughts----kind of hoping you were going to do the same thing every week.

Doe Run Thoughts...

Never try to sneak anything past the rest of the group...karma will get ya!
Since I've been involved with GVRA:
>We've run the same stock 283ci V-8
>We had a 12 bolt rearend in the car til I broke the spider gears last year. After breaking the rear we upgraded to a 9in Ford and went with a little different ratio.

Well... After running at Malden, and having a few weeks off, we decided to make some wholesale changes to the driveline. We pulled the ol trusty 283, and slipped in a 350. We also changed the gearing again. Not that we were/are cheating anyone, but we didn't say anything to anyone. I was hoping for noticeable results, lol. and that is what we got...

Re-assembly of the rearend, kinked a brake hose. Glowing/smoking the brakes while packing the track is not a good thing...

After fixing the brakes, we rolled out for hotlaps.
:confused:Lap 2 of hotlaps, the car let off a smoke grenade in turns 3 &4.
Fortunately We had left the factory valve covers on the fresh engine and neglected to seal up the right side cover. At the time it seemed alot worse than it turned out to be... The oil (about a quart) had shot out of a breather tube and soaked the whole top side of the engine, distributor, breather, and firewall. Due to everything being soaked in oil, the car was misfiring badly and idle was really low. I thought I had blown the motor. :)All turned out to be okay.

For the heat race, I started 3rd. I had a passenger with me(brave guy to climb in an oil soaked racecar, lol), which usually slows the car down a little. The "new" motor held on to finish the heat (3rd), and impress the passenger. His only disappointment was that the 2E and 99 stayed side-by-side and held us up...;)

To quote my passenger "that's better than any ride at Six Flags!" and I couldn't agree more! :D

Unfortunately the rest of our night belonged to Mother Nature...and some very nasty lightning. Not many things scare me, but lightning bolts the size of telephone poles that arc for 2-3 seconds top the list!
