Don's Goodyear Race Event Spared by Area Showers at West Plains Motor Speedway

West Plains, MO With skies and the radar showing showers, racers and fans filed into the pits and stands with a shade of reluctance. But, the Don's Goodyear Race Night events were spared although a light shower dotted the red clay just as the finishing touches were being added. Only a slight delay in the program resulted along with cooler temperatures and a super tacky track.
Winner of the Don's Goodyear sponsored IMCA Modified feature was Chris Piper of West Plains, making his first appearance of the year on Victory Lane. Brandon Ball of West Plains, finished second followed by Bobby Skinner of Moody, MO, Scott Crigler of Alton, MO, Danny Peterson of West Plains, Lonnie Judd of Caulfield, MO, Anthony Carnal of Cabool, MO, Kevin Collins and Jason Brigman, both of West Plains, and Brian Judd of Caulfield.
Rounding out the Modified field was Jason Snodgrass of Mtn. Home, AR, Matt Barry of West Plains, Carmon Vincent of Moody, Joey Smith of Pomona, MO, Denny Dennison of West Plains, Austin Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR, Calvin Tribble, Jerry Croney and David Mallonee, all of West Plains, Carl Murphy of Caulfield, Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, MO, and Rustin Miller of Houston, MO.
Super Stock feature winner was Stan Ellison of West Plains, with Todd Cook coming in second, followed by Bill Dixon of Thayer, MO, Dee Kelly of Birch Tree, Jeff North of Rogersville, MO, Andy Collins of West Plains, Jason Johnson of Hardy, Kevin Collins of West Plains, Brian Ratliff of Hardy, Derald Kelly of Birch Tree, Bobby Bryant of West Plains, Doyle Frost of Alton, Mo, and Clint Seamans of Imboden, AR, rounded out the field.
Bobby Bryant of West Plains, won the Don's Goodyear sponsored Hobby Stock feature. Coming across the finish second was Dexter Frost of West Plains, followed by Rick Cooper of Thornfield, MO, Shane Hitt of Birch Tree, Dean Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR, Brock Frost of Birch Tree, Korey Whitelock of Alton, MO, Jessie Shearin of Blue Springs, MO, Scott Todd of Hardy, and Randy Dennison of West Plains.
Winner of the Cruiser feature was John Stiner of West Plains, followed by Tyler Newcom of Hardy, Sissy Ratliff Seaman of Imboden, Clifford Collins, II, Bill Harden, Mark Doiron and Rhonda Gunter all of West Plains and Murrill Pace of Gainesville, MO.
The Don's Goodyear sponsored Youth Hobby Feature winner was William Piper of Birch Tree, and it was William's first feature win of the season. Taking second was Ben Piper of West Plains, with Austin White of Willow Springs, coming in third. A fourth competitor, Gunter Clayton of West Plains, was sidelined with mechanical problems before the feature event
Next week will be the annual TCI Automotive race event. Scott Miller of Ashland, MS, is usually on hand with a display of high performance race car components. Gates will open at 5 pm, with hotlaps at 6:30 pm, and racing at 7 pm. Adult admission will be $8, senior citizens $5, kids 7-11 $2, and those 6 and under are always free.
