Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (May 27, 2014) - Following a busy four-race schedule last weekend, Jack Dover has recorded a podium finish in nine consecutive races.
"When you're on the podium you're doing something," he said. "It shows we're consistent and can run up front wherever we go. I know we've got the car and equipment, and I think we have the driver. I think we can run on the podium every night if we don't have anything go wrong."
Dover kicked off the eventful weekend last Friday with the ASCS Midwest Region at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., where he advanced from fourth to second place in his heat race to earn enough points for a spot in the feature redraw.
He then pulled the No. 5 in the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the third row.
"We got to second and followed Jason Martin," he said. "We were catching him slowly. A yellow came out with four laps to go, but he jumped out eight car lengths on the restart and I couldn't reel him in."
Dover ended with the runner-up finish and he remains the ASCS Midwest Region points leader.
On Saturday, he tackled the Nebraska 360 Sprints event at Butler County Speedway in Rising City, Neb., where he won two weeks prior. After claiming his heat race from the pole, Dover started the feature on the inside of the third row for the second straight night.
"In the beginning we fell back to eighth place," he said. "I wasn't really racing because I was too worried my tires weren't tight enough."
During a caution several laps into the race his crew gave him the thumbs up and Dover charged to a third-place result.
"We had a chance at second," he said. "We slid Billy (Alley) and then the yellow came out. We had nothing for him on the restart. We were pretty even with first and second though."
The highlight of the weekend was on Sunday with the Nebraska 360 Sprints at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the Charlie Clark Memorial. Dover maneuvered from sixth to second place in his heat race to advance into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 6 to start the 22-lap feature on the outside of the third row.
However, it didn't take long for Dover to reach the top spot.
"We got a complete lap in and going into turns one and two the next time we took the lead," he said. "All the times I've raced at I-80 that's the best that my car has ever worked. I could go anywhere I wanted to and wasn't having to fight the car. It was pretty much driving itself."
After brushing off a couple of slide jobs from Danny Lasoski, Dover pulled away to pick up the $3,022 victory - his fourth win of the season.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Huset's Speedway, where Dover charged from eighth to third place in his heat race. Following the feature inversion, Dover started on the outside of the front row for the main event and he took the lead from the time the green flag was waved.
"I think we led about half the race," he said. "On a restart my tires sealed over. My car just wouldn't stick coming off the corner."
Dover battled with eventual winner Terry McCarl for the top spot for the remainder of the race before ending with his second runner-up result of the weekend.
Dover is set to compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this Friday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan., and on Saturday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals, which he won in 2011.
