Inside Line Promotions - EAGLE, Neb. (June 3, 2014) - Jack Dover had high expectations entering the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals last Saturday at his home track.
Dover was riding nine consecutive podium finishes and he was the 2011 winner of the famed Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Eagle Raceway. However, lady luck didn't appear last weekend when Dover finished where he started - third - in his heat race on the fast track.
"The track was really rough and heavy, so there wasn't any passing going on," he said. "We were all even."
That lined him up on the inside of the eighth row for the main event.
"In the first five laps I fell back," he said. "I think I fell back to second to last and a yellow came out. I just decided I better step up and give it all I had. We picked off cars slowly and on the last lap we got two cars. The car got better as the race went on and we lost the fuel load. I think I was too tight at the beginning."
Dover rallied through the stacked field to crack the top 10 in the closing laps before a late move propelled him to a seventh-place result.
"I was running everywhere," he said. "I tried the bottom. I tried the top. I tried the middle. I was going where everybody else wasn't. I'm not upset about anything because we came from the back, but it wasn't the result I was looking for."
The seventh-place finish extended his top-10 streak as Dover has finished in the top seven of every feature this season.
He is taking this weekend off before returning to action June 13 at U.S. 36 Raceway near Cameron, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region and on June 15 at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., with the NCRA.
Additionally, Dover plans on having new shirts, sweatshirts and hats available for sale in the middle of June.
