BEAVER, Okla. (March 14) – Opening night features for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will be April 17 at newly re-opened Beaver County Raceway.
Eight Friday, Saturday or Sunday events are on the schedule for both divisions this season at the Oklahoma panhandle venue. The Blood, Sweat and Tears Series comes to town for Aug. 5 and 6 shows with season championship night set for Sept. 17.
“This is a very fast track,” guaranteed promoter Glen Thompson, who’s made laps around the 3/8-mile red clay oval during his own racing career. “It’s been re-shaped with 18 and 20 degree banking in the corners and about three degrees on the straights.”
The track location is at a hub for drivers from north Texas, western Kansas and southeast Colorado, as well as from closer to home.
“Both the Modifieds and Stock Cars are very competitive. The problem around this area is that the outlaw situation has gotten so out of hand. IMCA is more affordable and it’s a lot more fun,” Thompson said. “Everybody is tired of changes in the rules or having no rules at all. I’m telling people once you go with IMCA, you’re part of a national organization that has a set of rules.”
In addition to work on the racing surface, off-season improvements have largely been safety-based.
More fencing has been installed on the front stretch while new barriers are in place on the backstretch. Natural impediments will be put in place to halt cars that go off turn four.
Beaver County will be considered a border track, giving ButlerBuilt Central Region points to drivers from Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado, and ButlerBuilt South Central Region points to drivers from Texas.
Stephenville Starter Southern Region points will go to Stock Car drivers from Oklahoma and Texas, while drivers hailing from Colorado and Kansas vie for Probe Industries Northern Region points.
“We’d like to add dates for the Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMods, too,” Thompson said. “Any drivers in that division who would be interested in racing here for points can contact me and we will try to add them.”
