(Mt. Vernon IL) Ray Emling Jr. after numerous second place finishes this 2005 season captured his first Mt. Vernon Steel Block feature win. The Mt. Vernon Steelblocks, a combined class that features the Steel Block and Fastrak late models provides a stellar field of cars. Emling held off heat winner Danny Jolly (second), and heat and dash winner Chad Burkes (third), for the victory.
Mt. Vernon’s UMP Modified points leader, Matt Mevert, needed a caution late in the UMP Modified nightcap to close the gap between himself and winner Ed Shamhardt. Mevert starting deep in the Modified field did a masterful job of slicing his way through to the front only to come up a straightaway short of victory. Shamhardt made a clean sweep of the night winning his heat, dash and feature, Shane Cockrum (third) and Marty Lindemann (forth) each won heats.
Current Mt. Vernon UMP Super Late Model and UMP National Points leader Rodney Melvin captured the UMP Late Model feature. Kevin Cole setting fast time for the second night in a row gave Melvin a battle for most of the 25 lap main event only to come up short at the checkers. Mike Hammerle, just off a victory at the Bell-Clair Speedway on Friday night was third, Kyle Monroe and Andy Pryor was forth and fifth respectfully.
John Wilkens captured the honors in the Bomber division and Aaron Heck took home the trophy on the Hornets.
