Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (April 29, 2009) – In less than a month, the forces of the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters will converge upon the semi-banked, 3/8-mile Jetmore Motorplex dirt oval in southwest Kansas for the Steve King Memorial presented by Coors Light.

And there will be added money on the line, as the winner of the Sunday night finale that puts the wraps on two full days of racing action on May 23-24 will bank a cool $10,000.

Pre-entry for the event is due by Friday, May 8. The $100 pre-entry includes three pit passes at a special price of $25. Any teams not submitting a pre-entry or entering after the May 8 deadline will pay full price for pit passes. Entry forms are available at http://www.tonybrucejr.com/skm_images/SKMRaceentryform.pdf.

What will likely prove to be a pivotal event in the Lucas Oil ASCS championship points chase, which includes a $250,000 point fund to be distributed among the top 15 in final points at season's end, will also serve as a fundraiser for the Steve King Fund. The Fund, which is part of the Hodgeman County Community Foundation, provides assistance to local residents in need and provides scholarships to local youth.

“I am excited to bring the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series to the Jetmore Motorplex,” commented event promoter Tony Bruce, Jr. “And, like many of my racing peers, when I think of Jetmore, I immediately think of Steve so it is only fitting that this Memorial Day Weekend racing event be in his memory.”

The City of Jetmore has proclaimed May 23, 2009, the 2nd Annual Steve King Day. Activities include a golf tournament, parade, racecar display, remote control car sprint car competition and a quilt show.

It will mark the first Lucas Oil ASCS National event at the Jetmore Motorplex since Memorial Day weekend of 2002, when Zach Chappell and Tim Crawley split the weekend's feature action.

Both nights of action at the Jetmore Motorplex will be televised in a one-hour presentation on the VERSUS Network on a tape-delayed basis with scheduled broadcast dates of July 4 (May 23 event) and July 11 (May 24 event).

Shane Stewart is out to the early lead in this year's $60,000 Lucas Oil ASCS championship chase over defending champion Jason Johnson and four-time series kingpin Gary Wright with events at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, IL) on May 1 and Little Rock's I-30 Speedway (May 9) preceding the Steve King Memorial at the Jetmore Motorplex.

The Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters is currently slated for approximately 33 nights of racing action at 16 different tracks throughout the nation, with the country's top Sprint Car drivers set to battle it out for their share of the $250,000 points fund.

The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and Canada in 2009. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.
